Right now Kessel... More durable and has been in the lineup more and I value that as a skill... If it wasn't valued then Lupul (who averages out as a 85 point player the last 2 seasons) would be valued as a top 5 winger in the game. If backstrom stays in the lineup and get's back to his 80 + point play then him but until he does it's Kessel for me.
Kessel for me, his ability to produce is extremely good and he just screams as someone to build a franchise around, someone who is an elite player, flashy, polarizing, etc. He's one of those guys that is the face of a franchise. I don't think backstrom is really any of those things, although he is a much more well rounded player than Kessel, and is arguably a better player.
I bet Pittsburgh is kicking themselves for going with Staal over Kesler. Crosby-Kessel would have been sick.
No way would they be able to take on Phil's 8 a year going forward. Would have been fun to watch up until this season for sure. You could see how good a 21 year old Phil Kessel was with a real center in Marc Savard. Imagine a 25 year old Kessel with Crosby or Malkin.
