If you are injured during training camp, you can't be sent down before being healthy, so Quailer and Thomas started season on IR.

I think Bergevin knew Aliu from his Chicago days.

Stefan Chaput was a favourite because quite frankly, they had noone else. The team was garbage.

Belzile was good, but was never going to play in the NHL. Give the spot to someone new.

Any chance Chaput and Belzile ends up in Wheeling? Not sure why this didn't happen already....Wheeling isn't done dealing.

Why do the Bulldogs have a week off at the start of the season?

Don't you know? They are one of the most lazy franchise of the AHL.

Spoil:
Probably just because of the random generation of the calendar.

Wow, I can't see Leblanc being 'the best player', like Bergevin told him he should be, while playing on the third line. I guess they see more value in Blunden than Leblanc.

The "third" line looks better offensively than the "second" though. I think the ranking might be somewhat arbitrary in that sense.

Interested to see how far this Akim Aliu reclamation project will go. I remember hearing of him in his draft year. In my most optimistic scenario, he works his way up to a scoring line over the next year, and gives Bergeron a reason to give him a sniff at the big club.

Fast-forward a year or two, with added maturity he makes the most of what could be his last chance at the big leagues. Fast-forward two or three, and the likes of him and Big Mac force their way onto the club: this would be a transformed club, especially with the likes of Tinordi and Beaulieu well established regulars by then.

Edit: it would be nice to finally have a cheap pick-up, through buying low due to off-ice issues for once, rather than squandering so many players (selling low) for precisely those reasons, going back to Chris Chelios and Patrick Roy, to name two.

Don't forget the Guy Carbonneau for Jim Montgomery trade

I think his line is pretty interesting. I liked what I saw of Nystrom in the camp. Pretty fast and intelligent player (but at high risk of being hit/destroyed). Nattinen is now a veteran that may have a "career year" in the AHL if healthy. If Leblanc plays with the same energy he played during camp, that line could surprise a lot of naturally sloppy AHL lines and defense.

Leblanc will have to be better than Holland and Thomas who are centered by Saint-Pierre, it'll be tough for him as i suspect the Holland-Saint-Pierre-Thomas line to be awesome.

Aliu is signed by Hamilton not Montreal. I believe any NHL team can sign him if he shows improvement.

I would guess him/and his agent would give the Habs the option of matching if he got such an offer.

Since Bergevin is Hamilton's GM I am pretty sure that Montreal would be on Aliu's radar screen and vice versa.

According to Mathias Brunet of Lapresse, the Bulldogs' first 3 lines for opening night are:

Andrighetto - St-Pierre - Holland
Nystrom - Duffy - Aliu
Blunden - Dumont - Leblanc

That would suggest a 4th line drawn from Nattinen, Tarnaski, Fournier, Courtnall and Macenauer and assumes that Thomas and Quailer are still not ready to go.

http://www.lapresse.ca/sports/hockey...8_section_POS2

Here's the complete line-up:

Andrighetto – St-Pierre – Holland
Blunden – Dumont – Leblanc
Nystrom – Duffy – Aliu
Tarnasky – Nattinen – Courtnall

Chouinard – Pateryn
Schiestel – Dietz
McIver – Nygren

Tokarski

Without Thomas and Bournival, that line-up doesn't look very sexy. Btw, what kind of injury does Thomas have ?
