Horrific Florida Panthers promotion (McCranda Experience)

Florida Panthers @FlaPanthers:
Meet @mccraechum & @TheRealAmandaZZ from @CBSBigBrother at the #Cats game Oct. 19, http://t.co/JJuREJ86KS Promo Code: #McCranda

https://twitter.com/flapanthers/stat...72214149832704

So basically, the Florida Panthers are promoting racism, bigotry, homophobia, etc etc etc. For those who don't watch Big Brother, this is who the Panthers want you to meet:

Pathetic.

"Come to our game and meet some airhead who became famous for achieving nothing of note." No wonder the Panthers don't make any money.

No, they're promoting a chance to meet a reality show "celebrity."

Yup...

Any other non-issues to talk about?...Plus the Floridian standard for homophobia and racism is much higher than this...

Show obviously sucks though...

Couldn't they have picked someone else? Pretty bad judgment, imo.

Yeah, but it gets 6 million viewers a night and probably cost the Panthers nothing...

I'll ding the Panthers' rep a little for it, but then again, I don't really care about their local events...

Yeah, I doubt anyone will care. Not because it isn't scummy to have some reality TV degenerate representing your team, but because it's the Florida Panthers.

I don't know this girl is, but she's probably not much less tolerant than Don Cherry and I have a hard time believing there would be a thread about meeting Don Cherry like this one.

Edit:Well it looks like she's certainly saying a lot of racial stereotypes but that's not much different than the same types of jokes people make with their friends. It doesn't make someone a racist, and it certainly doesn't mean the organization is promoting racism or intolerance.

She said Puerto Ricans are smelly. I don't know what your friends think is funny, but that's pretty freakin racist.

Saying a racist joke =/ being racist. In this case the joke just simply wasn't funny. If I make a joke that makes fun of Jews does that make me an anti-semite? No, it means I think the joke was funny. Don Cherry has said Europeans are heartless and gutless on more than one occasion and you rarely hear any serious criticism about him in mainstream media.

Saying Puerto Ricans are smelly is both racist and not funny. I'm not sure why you feel the need to argue that point. Is she more racist than your average dimwit on a reality show? Who knows, but her statements were clearly racist.

Not sure I would really tie the Florida Panthers with this so much. She's offensive, but then again so is all of reality TV so I guess I barely notice anymore. By the way, I never watch reality TV to begin with, so if we want to stop making the Paris Hiltons and the Kardashians of the world famous for having absolutely no talent, then keep watching this boring crap.

If six million people really watched that show, then it's six million more than watch the Florida Panthers! So maybe they are getting the best part of this deal.
