I wasn't referring to just receiver trades. In the NFL, you don't see many high profile players traded regardless. But how many elite players actually hit free agency? Again, I don't really care if we move him to the Jets or not. Someone will pay. I'd prefer him to go to the Jets solely because Geno needs a great #1 receiver, but there are many options.
I wasn't even thinking about it in the context of the Jets, honestly. That's probably one team he'd want to sign an extension with, as he wouldn't even have to uproot. But who knows? Tenuous coaching situation, rookie QB, etc. Maybe it's not desirable to him.

You're right, marquee players don't usually hit free agency. Teams usually re-sign them. They definitely don't get traded often. It's a bit of a unique circumstance. That's why I hesitate to say "he'll definitely get this" or "there's no way the Giants take less than this." It's just hard to gauge a market that we've really never experienced.

So why would you even want Gordon, then? I like how you try to denigrate him in order to get him cheaper.
Holy putting words in my mouth. Where did I ever say he wasn't a good player? I'm simply bringing up comparables in the trade market. Trent Richardson was drafted last year 3rd overall. The Browns even traded up to get him- so they gave up a 1st, 4th, 5th, and a 7th for Trent. Just one year later, they gave him up for a 2014 1st for one of the best teams in the league who will likely be picking in the 20s.

Explain that logic to me then, Jon? Same team, and you know, the trade is working out quite well for both teams.

Draft picks are simply valued so unbelievably much in the NFL today. It's ridiculous logic to say just because he went for a 2nd two years ago he'd go for a 2nd now- especially after a suspension. To say me bringing up a suspension as a cause for lowering value is "denigrating" is absurd. It's a completely valid point, and to say otherwise is ridiculous.

I think the two "guaranteed" extensions would be the Jets and the Patriots. I think the Panthers and Chiefs would be likely re-signs, as well.

Did you read my post at all? Holy putting words in MY mouth. Go back, re-read, re-comment. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Where in the world did you see me saying that you said Gordon is not a good player? You brought up his drug history as a point to reduce his trade value. I questioned the logic on that -- if you think he's a risk, why would you want him at all? I don't think the Browns are going to give him up for less because of weed.

Would the Giants be able to trade Nicks after signing with via the franchise player tag?

What would the cap hit for us be there? That's the real issue. Hell, why not just have the receiving team franchise him? I forget all the rules w/r/t franchising, but couldn't whoever traded for him just franchise him?

I suspect that would be the way to do it. Some team having trouble getting ahold of a good wideout might do it in lieu of using a first round pick on one who would need to develop.

The Giants can keep Cruz, Randle and pick up a big, cheap 3rd slot receiver while using the extra money elsewhere.

Hell, I would just roll with Jernigan and Murphy next year as our 3/4 guys.

I want to see Cox get a chance tonight, but I doubt he will since he's only a rookie. This team really needs to see what the young guys can do (if anything) so we can see what the **** to do next year. Are any of these guys viable NFLers? How would we know if we never play them?

Myers has been an enormous disappointment so far, which, naturally means that he won't price himself out of the team and will be back next year.

That's just how it works here.

They really need to play Donnell and Robinson (when he's healthy).

Because if he wasn't a risk he'd warrant a higher draft pick. Same reason why people buy lottery tickets. If you could guarantee Gordon wouldn't be suspended, he might warrant a late first rounder. But that's not the case. The fact that his value is lower allows the Jets to gamble. If Revis doesn't year his ACL, he gets way more than a 1st and a future 3rd. Same deal. Doesn't mean TB doesn't want Revis or doesn't think he's a good player, it means they are aware of the risks and think the opportunity cost is right at a first and a 3rd.

how many ****ing times this year we gonna have a pick off a route that eli and the receivers are anticipating completely different? are we just giving way to much freedom in reading plays between the WR and QB? its 6 games now and we've got already 3 or 4 picks on throws that the receiver is no where near the ball.

This is on Eli AND his receivers. Not just Eli. I don't know how people can't see that.

Even if a receiver ran a bad route, that throw was high, slow, and wobbling.
