Its luck and some good drafting, but it is nice as a kid to come to North america and play with Yzerman, Shanahan, Hull, Lidstrom and so on...not to mention Fedorov last season. These kids get to play with some of the best in the world, it does a world of differance playing with those types. Do you think they would be doing so well playing in Nashville?

What about Korneev, Ryder, Locke, or even O'Byrne for that matter?

Ryder seems to be playing really well.

Korneev seems to be an absolute gem considering the fact he's getting regular icetime in the RSL, and he's been on the #1 defensive pairing on Russia's WJC team for the past few years.

Some people were talking about O'Byrne being the steal of the draft, since he has all kinds of skill, but hadn't even played college hockey prior to being drafted and wasn't getting much attention from scouts due to that.

Locke was a late rounder, but he has loads of skill. The only thing that'll ever hold him back will be his size.

Ryder is a good exemple but Korneev, Locke and O'Byrne can't be acknowledged as succesful picks yet.

Plus add Markov.

Theodore->2nd rounder
Ryder->9th rounder
Markov->6th rounder

And his skating... I've only seen him twice, but it's pretty bad. He'll really have to work on that.

I think it might be good developping rather than good drafting.

Or maybe both, because it's really all in their heads. If a player, even one drafted in the 9th round, really, REALLY wants to make it and is ready to sacrifice everything... then he can become a great pick. It's all about hard work, it's all in their heads. The players drafted in the 1st round are usually the most skilled, or the best skaters, the best checkers, the best defensive or offensive players, that sort of thing. But it's very hard to "judge" how much a player is ready to work hard--and that's the most important thing with prospects, because skill can be developped.

Yeah, but it's still early to pass a judgement... you know what happens with teams that judge a player too fast... like Markus Naslund in Pittsburgh or Cam Neely in vancouver
