The end result is the same but the journey is not the same.

If a guy gets knocked out in the 12th round I do not look at him the same as a guy that takes a dive in the first round.

I do not respect quitters or the Khardashians.

If the end result is the same then both are the same. Sorry.

That is the type of rationality a quitter would use in life but there is actually a huge difference in quitting and losing while giving a full honest effort.

I only care about end results, the only thing that matters. You don't get extra points for how you lose.

This, what we are witnessing, is "losing while trying to win".

It looks just as pathetic and awful as tanking.

They are not giving a full honest team effort.

They have mailed in full periods of hockey. Even the Ducks announcers said they gave up for sure in the last game.

Quitting is pathetic. Most fans do appreciate an honest effort but you can forfeit if you prefer that route.

So you admit that they are already quitting? You must hate this then.

I do not think they are flat out quitting but I believe they are lost and not giving 100% effort at this point.

Any real fan would hate seeing his team giving less than an honest effort.

You must hate what you are watching right now then, cause that's exactly what they are doing.

Don't start with the "Real Fan" condescending ********. The type of play you are abhorring is exactly what you are watching right now.

I do hate seeing them give less than 100% effort.

I stand by my statement. Any real fan would hate seeing his team not give a honest effort in any sport.

Then you, as a "real fan", must be seething right now. Because that is exactly what you are watching.

I definitely do not like it. I understand that some nights they will not have it but they have to work harder than they have the last 2 games.

Again, this is your "trying to win but lose". Shouldn't you feel proud? They're trying to win! It's a different kind of losing!

Lift your head up high, you might have been blown out in consecutive games, but at least you TRIED to win them!

Giving 65% in a game is not trying. Giving 100% is trying.

If you try, then you try. Even 1% is trying. You can't just pick and choose numbers.

No can team give 100% every night. That's impossible. You're either trying to win the game or your not. There aren't "degrees" of trying Sorry, it doesn't work like that.

Did the coach really leave Lundqvist in to stew down 6-0?

Jesus Christ with the semantics. Championship probably has his little league participation trophies up on the mantle. This team's effort is embarrassing. Like Fotiu said at least show some goddamned heart. Going out like a ***** two games in a row tells you alot about the lack of character of this group.

Call me whatever you want but I'll take a guy who's got some fire in his heart over a more talented empty shell.

Prust and Dubi have still not been replaced. This team has no character and its disgusting.

Cannot believe Brooks would have the audacity to question how the Rangers would respond to Vigneault and a 9-2 beating where pretty much the entire team quit on the coach, saying even though it was only the third game of the season, this would be a huge test of character.

Thank goodness so many of you guys fired back at Brooks and set him straight. Good stuff.

It's this team's mindset and demeanor that has carried over from the pre-season that I was alluding to as being a concern. The results in the preseason don't matter. How you go about your business does.
The softness is present. Really, the mindset was only there with Torts. The Rangers have been a soft team since Keenan left. That only changed with Torts. And now, they are back to being soft. Why? The mindset is different. The whatever it takes to win. The finish all checks. The get your nose dirty. That mind set w as a refreshing change during Torts. And now, it is basically back to what has been reality. Might as well see the Chezmates skating around.

Sort of reminds me of the Miracle movie where Brooks screams at his team "You think you can win on talent alone? You haven't got enough talent".

This team does not have enough talent to simply skate and play the system that AV wants. They have lost their identity. They have lost the will to compete when they decided that Torts was stifling their creativity. They do not have the creativity that they thought. The way that Torts had them play masked lots of issues. Now the warts are all on display. Their defensive game is reminding me of the way that they played under Muckler.

At least the Czechmates scored on occasion.

This organization under Sather has been lazy and unwilling to do the hardwork to build a franchise that can be consistently successful. Everything is slap-dash:

We need offense, let's trade for Rick Nash.

Oh no, we have no depth. Let's trade Marian Gaborik.

Oh no we have no offense again.

Oh, it seems that the players are unhappy with the current coach. I guess we have to fire him.

Let's wait a week before we start interviewing coaches.

OK, lets interview two candidates (one terribly unqualified, but...you know...he won a Cup in Edmonton) one has underachieved with a much more talented roster than the one he would be inheriting.

Wait, Dallas is interested in AV? Quick, hire him.

This is what I'm talking about when I say they seem to make moves in a vacuum.

There's an unwillingness to do the hard work. To take a step back and really look at what is here. To allow talent to develop. To build an organizational philosophy that starts with the Rangers and trickles down to Hartford. Something you build around, something you draft players, trade for players and sign players who fit that mold.

I mean, what is the organizations philosophy? If it's to grind and outwork opponents, then why is Taylor Pyatt, Derick Brassard or Benoit Pouliot on this team?

If it's to be uptempo and take the offense to the other team, why does anyone thing you can do that when there's only one legit top offensive player on the roster (who now might be a concussion concern — although I have my own theory on that).

People want to blame Dolan. Well, outside of not firing Sather by now (yes, that's not a small thing), he's the exact owner you want — not really involved and willing to spend money. He built a state-of-the-art training center, has allowed his GM to not only be active in the free agent market but also pay those failed signings 6M to play minor league hockey or pay those failed minor league signings to play for anyone but the Rangers.

For chrissake, somebody in this organization — do the hard work.

Excellent points. The Brooks quote very fitting.

The team is playing like it is demoralized. Some can sit back and say 'yeah it's only a couple games--let's not push the panic button' but the Rangers seem incapable of playing the style they're being asked to by their coach. They don't have the skill and don't have enough grit.

And here's the thing Torts used to blather on about 'the right way to play' and AV is blathering as well about 'the right way to play' and both of their 'right way to play's are completely different but very arguably Torts understood the talent's and the strengths and weaknesses of his players better than what AV is showing. Torts devised his game plan around what he knew. So far what we see from AV is something different. It's like he's yet to realize there are no Sedin's and Kesler's--no pwp quarterback. It's like direct knowledge vs. theory or belief. Theory and belief = a load of horse ****.

Whatever. It is early but we've been really shellacked two times in a row. Practically nothing in the last two games makes me think that this team even gets what's happening to it. No real coherent response. To reiterate--we're not skilled enough to play like the best offensive teams. Our main strength the last few years was a strong and tight defense. We've jettisoned that so we can attack, attack, attack. We're not nearly tough enough to make other teams respect us. This team is lost somewhere out in no man's land and not sure what direction to go in to get back to their own lines.
