The Peter Budaj Appreciation Thread!

Because we'll need to bump this one a few times this year, I feel. 8-1-1 in his last starts, and hasn't looked out of place. I think we have the luxury of having one of the premier backup's of the NHL.

I think he deserved / should get the next start and so on until he loses one, but since it's in Vancouver you know Price will play. Budaj was solid in regular season for us last year and deserves more games this year, especially if Price can't get a win streak going.

Small correction, he was pulled at least once in that stretch without getting the loss added to his stats, but that doesn't discredit that he has been a good backup for us so far.

Good pickup by Gauthier. I never worry when Budaj is in goal...stark contrast to when we had Auld back there, where I never knew what performance I was going to be watching.

He's solid and a great teammate.

The great teammate thing I thought was overrated, but seeing him on 24CH shows me he's a goof and the guys love him.

The only thing Auld ever contributed on this team was that line from Darren Pang, he's big, he's bald, he's Alex Auld. He had the biggest five hole holy ****

Budaj is a really good backup and seems like a great guy. Even when his helmet popped off yesterday he was in a good mood and joking with the ref. It's definitely a luxury to have him backing up Price. And with Tokarski and Fucale in the pipeline we have great depth at the position IMO.

If the league expands next year, I'd say he's a good candidate to be the starter of that team. Him and one of St-Louis' guys.

We have two of the top 30 goalies in the league, that I'm sure. If they'd do a fantasy draft to reset the league, he'd start somewhere.

if not for a bad goalmouth deflection he could have had the shutout. Therrien should have no qualms about using Budaj more than he did last year.

Good teammate. It's hard not to like Buddy, even harder when he's playing well.

Budaj is outstanding at what he does. He's an extremely solid backup goaltender, and a good and reliable teammate. I think he should start a good chunk of games this year. He has deserved it after last year's amazing record of 8-1-1.

On a side note, boyyy do I ever love exaggerating my words

Budaj is a top 30-40 goalie, not a top 30 goalie

Looking at the list of goalies, I'd rate him 35-38 area.

As far as backups go, the Habs cannot ask for a better guy. Low maintenance guy that the team loves, and he wins. He's had issues in his career when his workload increases, but that only means he's even more suited for the backup role. Sometimes we forget gauthier actually made some good moves too.

On the telecast it was pointed out that Budaj has now a 9-0-0 streak going in regular season.

Exactly how does a backup goalie accomplish this with the alleged brutal defense Montreal has?

Good question, that's why I believe we should give Budaj more games this season...see where everything goes.
