The Preds should return to the .500 mark for the first time in franchise history since their second game in their first season when they were 1-1. They are currently 249-258-91 just 9 games under .500, and currently in their 8th season.
I decided to look into some of the other expansion franchises and how long they took to get back to the franchise .500 mark.
The winner was the Florida Panthers who in their 3rd season finished at 94-87-33 and a trip to the Stanley Cup finals. In their 4th season they increased on there record and finished 129-115-52. But since then (seasons 5 to 13) they have gone 66 games under .500 with a record of 238-304-140 and an overall current record of 367-419-192. So while they were the quickest to get above .500, 6 of there last 8 seasons they have had losing records.
But besides Florida's quick success the Pred's appear to be the 2nd quickest francise to get back to .500 should they accomplish that this year, their 8th in the NHL.
Here are the records of some of the other franchises;
Ottawa 447-469-145, Twenty-two games under .500 and in their 14th season.
Blue Jackets 141-218-56, Seventy-seven games under .500 in their 6th season and haven't turned the corner yet.
Atlanta 176-265-77, Eighty-nine games under .500 in their 7th season and probably 3 or 4 seasons away from getting to .500.
San Jose 445-538-159, Ninety-three games under .500 in their 15th season.
Tampa Bay 384-531-146, One hundred and forty-seven games under .500 in their 14th season. But a Stanley Cup in their 12th season kinda cleans the slate.
I would say that this will be a nice feather in the cap for Mr. Poile and somewhat for Trotz.
