Ryan Smyth is FINISHED, DONE, as an NHL player, the problem is no one around him has the balls to tell him what an embarrassment he's becoming.
Completely agree!

He should be in the press box for the rest of the year or put on waivers!

We can let him score 30 points while dragging down our most productive players, while ruining the development of a 1st overall pick by keeping him quarantined to the 3rd line because Smyth wouldn't have a spot on the team if said 1st overall pick broke out. In fact, why don't we sign Smyth to an 8 year 8 million dollar contract for all he's done for us, and trade the players in his way on the first line like Hall, Yakupov, Perron, and Eberle because they hurt Smyth's legacy. While we're at it, why don't we bring back Wayne Gretzky or Mark Messier, they'll uhh, give the team uhh, spiritual guidance.
Well said! I am so tired of these bleeding heart Smytty fans. Get over it people...He's done!

IMO the truly sad thing is that Smytty really believes he is still an offensive weapon. He would be better used eating popcorn and helping out the boys.

Give him a silver stick and announce his retirement on Monday then.

He'll make his trip to the PB, if Eakins thinks he does not deserve to be in the line-up.

He scores such ugly goals. They shouldn't count.

He'll probably be moved up to the first line or something now.

I've grown up watching Smyth, and tonight was vintage #94 hockey. He did it with limited ice time to boot.

Complaining about Smyth on a night like tonight just shows that your mind is made up.

If every night was like tonight he'd be awesome like he used to be, but I suspect it's an anomaly and we'll all go back hating him for the play dying on his stick next game. He does win the board battles like he used to nor has any speed left (a tad behind in every play)

After spewing some Smitty hate previously in this thread, I'll give him his due tonight. The reason he succeeded tonight was he got rid of the puck a lot quicker. Holmstrom knew how to do that well, if Smitty can do it regularly there may be hope.

I remember a playoff game where they clocked Holmstrom's time on ice for a period and the time he was in possession of the puck. It was something like 6 minutes on ice and 5 seconds in possession of the puck. And he scored that period.

If he has more games like he did tonight I'll give him credit.

But I hope this is a norm and not an abberation.

Good game by Smyth, I was rooting for him to get the hatty. I still think he should be a 4th line/2nd PP unit guy, this way he won't be overusedand hopefully more effective.

Unfair.

What was that thing that Smyth showed to get into position for the Eberle pass, some speed? Nose to the net, reading exactly what was happening.

Fact of the matter is a lot of Oiler players don't get that goal and don't get to that greasy spot with conviction.
