Maybe, but they couldn't have been all that impressed by youth either as both Lessio and Brown were quickly shipped to the AHL in exchange for Yip(28) and Kennedy(27).

He can skate. He's old and the injury he suffered a few years ago makes it so he can't fly.

He's good on faceoffs. Good team guy. A leader, he has the ability to help offensively, but I wouldn't count on it.

If you want to get rid of him, just waive him. Montreal will pick him up.

Good for Halpy. Even though his last stint in Washington didn't work out, he's still one of my favorites. Hopefully he sticks in the NHL with Phoenix.

Tippett knows what he's getting here. He'll fit in fine.

Why?

Did he play in Europe after September 30th?

Me too. I thought he was excellent for us and wanted him resigned. I think he is still an effective NHL player.

He was effective for the Habs. He came in at a time when the Habs needed exactly what he could provide, some faceoff reliability (not excellence - but experience and reliable effectiveness), and general defensive awareness. He looked like he might be able to chip in a little more than he did, he got around the ice just fine, but it never quite went in for him (not like his previous stint with us where he was chipping in offense with regularity). Good player to have on hand. Habs didn't have room, but I can readily imagine them ending up wanting a reliable #4 center again at some point later this season and wouldn't have minded having Halpern back at that time.

Just shows how bad our scouting and drafting has been over the years.
