I'd love to see us get Sbisa back. He's probably available, can still turn it around and wouldn't cost the Earth. Rather him than Meszaros, and he can help replace Timonen next year too.

The Yakupov quote doesn't scare me. He doesn't know how to express himself with his broken English, and he also doesn't yet know what is acceptable to say and not to say.

That said, while I would love to have a top flight young winger like Yakupov, I agree with Beef above. We're not in a position to pay the cost of a premier youngster like Yak and walk away a better team.

That said, I wouldn't mind dangling the following players in a trade if Edmonton is looking to deal an impact winger: Coburn, Meszaros, Grossmann, Simmonds, Talbot.

I'd also rather have Eberle than Yakupov.

We also apparently sent two scouts to watch the WSH/EDM game tonight. I wouldn't be at all surprised if talks involving Coburn were heating up again. Though, I have been very pleased with Coburn's play so far, so I'd be a bit more hesitant trading him than I would have been on draft day.

I have always said a Coburn+ for Eberle deal makes sense on some levels. We get a top 6 winger, while they get a top 4 dman who is probably their best defender. Smid is a good players, but I would take Coburn over him. Oiler fans would think you are crazy for saying that though.. Every fanbase on here over values our players, but that deal akes too much sense to not be talked about. Eberle was in the dog house early on here too, but since Yak got scratched, he has been better.

Also Hockeyfreak7, here did you see the info that we have 2 scouts heading up there?

I'd hate to lose Coburn, but good lord, this team needs a guy like Eberle. That'd also give room to Gus to be fully in the lineup and provide much needed back end offense.

An Oilers radio guy reported it:

Coburn can be a bonehead at times, but I'd be really reluctant to trade him away, especially if the Flyers aren't getting a defensemen in return.

Thanks for the link. Missed it I guess, I follow him on twitter.

Now Dave Brown is our head pro scout, and Al Hill is one of three pro scouts we have listen on Flyers.com. We could be advanced scouting for games against Washington on the 1st of November and Oilers on November 9th.... or we could be talking big blockbuster here!!! Since it seems more likely we are advanced scouting for some upcoming games, I am going to say a huge trade is going to take place(HF mentality). We all know we aren't there to watch Yak though...

He's really the only moveable asset on the backend that has value. I still think they need defenders with puck skills. Schenn and Grossmann are liabilities with the puck. Coburn isn't bad, but he should be the cutoff. They desperately need a right handed defenseman as well.

They have a couple of right handed defenders. Justin Schultz isn't going anywhere, Petry and Potter are both right handed, but Potter is injured. Edmonton fans value Petry a lot, so they won't entertain the thought of moving him.

Hypothetical: who would you rather get back in a deal, Yakupov or Eberle?

lirl@ the thought that the centerpiece of Coburn would be enough to get Eberle.

Coburn is so average, using him as the main piece in a trade for Eberle would be an absolute steal. Can't move the puck well, can't shoot well, and takes a ton of minor penalties.

I wonder if the Oilers will claim Biron off of waivers.

Edmonton would want way more than just Coburn for Yakupov or Eberle. They have their Coburn arriving soon in Nurse. Not to mention trading Coburn guts the defense.

I agree with your take from the Edmonton side. Coburn would have to be paired with a significant additional roster player (Simmonds) to get Eberle.

I would love to trade Coburn + Hartnell to the Oilers for Eberle. They would be dumb to take that deal though. I can only dream.

With our luck, Holmgren is targeting Mike Brown.
