lines (merged)

I hope we keep them the same for the next game, they seem to be working oh-so-well.

How the 2nd line has stayed together so far this year is honestly beyond me.

LINE CHANGES PLEASE!!!!!!

Agreed,

Although I thought the fourth line with Streit tonight played ok, but got unlucky with those icings in the third.

The second buzzes sometims but there is no chemistry between the 3 of them. Please put Kovalev with Koivu, he's begging for it, you can see an immense difference in him when they play together on the PP. I think 25 games was sufficent to realize it wasn't working and to try something new.

....

Yeah, I would definetly try Kovalev with Koivu and then put Ryder on the 2nd to give that line a little more grit, because right now, they have 0.

something must be done....

Carbo for some reason thinks Sammy should always play with Kovalev, I'd rather see him somewhere else. Not to mention Kovalev's a nutcase, he's bound to benefit from playing with Koivu in a good way.

And there needs to be a new change of tactics. Please.

I now consider Perez-Bonk-Johnson the second line.

Yeah. Let's allow Kovalev's laziness to drag Koivu through the mud too. Great idea!

The problem on the second line is Kovalev.
5 on 5 I would even say he's the worst forward of the first 3 lines.

Probably the most talented but the less effective.

Of course he would look better with Koivu but who wouldn't ?

Kovalev is now a PP specialist.

It's impossible for anybody to look bad playing with Koivu. You could put a corpse beside Koivu and it'd rack up the points.

I have no doubts that Koivu and Kovalev would be great together...unfortunately it would make our second line look even more anemic than it currently is, if that's possible.

Honestly, I don't understand why he hasn't shuffled him around. Other then his demotion to the "4th" line which lasted all but a game, he hasn't tried him anywhere else.

The real problem is they are very similar in styles of play... love to carry the puck and dangle.

No one on that 2nd line goes to the net to create chances, except KOVY and in that case he is behind the goalie ready to make the next save....

Wait. I've got a better idea, lets leave him on the 2nd and he will continue to produce the way he is now.....

The second line would likely improve if we did this, but the first line would be crap.

The best move to make would be to wait 'til Higgins comes back, and then trade Kovalev for a blueliner who knows how to play some defense. Only having one of those has killed us this season.

Samsonov's been creating some great chances actually and they make a lot of fans go "ooh! no..." but apart from that there is a huge lack of communication on the line sometimes. It's not just the similiar style, they just don't know what to do anymore. Not to mention I feel that they're trying to reduce Samsonov's role a lot more lately and for him to play just offense and nothing else. Or maybe I'm just delusional.

I don't see how the first line could possibly be crap...Koivu and Kovalev have scored (or assisted on somebody else's goal) practically every time they're paired together on the PP. Mind you, PP is not the same as 5-on-5, but still.

I really think this would be the best time to trade Souray and land a solid 2nd line center that we have needed for quite some time.

don't u remember.................

we got kovalev because koivu had no RW. He was playing with zed but they needed someone else to complete that line.

Then in the middle of last season or not even affter playing 45 Games Kovy disses captain K by saying that he likes to play with ribs.

I guarantee u that 11 and 27 don't speak to each other. Also only russians speak to kovy.

Why have Hab fans been bashing Garth? This was the first full Habs game and I must say I would love to have Garth over Marcel. Hustles, finishes checks hard, and goes to the front of the net and PKs real well

The general feeling I get from Kovalev is that he seems to think he's "above" a lot of players on the team, yet feels no need to actually back that up with his play. It almost seems like his attitude is "I won a Cup a decade ago, I can do whatever I want". I would not at all be surprised if he was the next player moved.

Souray would fetch a pretty price and if we still want him, we could resign him afterwards. He's become a highly needed item and I'm sure teams will give much nicer players than trading Samsonov.

You forgot one : gives the opposition a good scoring chance on each of his shifts.

I would welcome that right now because i'm getting a little tired of seeing guys open and all he does is hang onto the puck to try and make the "next" play and ends up losing it.

the guy doesn't have a pass button. send him back!

If you watched all of Murray's other games this season you might not be singing the same tune. He's been downright awful 99% of the time. And I'd rather have Murray than (Marcel) Hossa too but that's not saying a whole lot

That sounds a little personal... Now if it's true I'm sure you could sell it to a newspaper in no time. Plus I'd like to know.

I think Kovalev and Koivu have gotten over a situation like that.

We have better players in the AHL that can take his place. Someday the management will wake up and realize Lappy is the better choice.

that is my exact thinking. right now sourays value is as high as it will ever be! he is a UFA at seasons end and i think it is no secret he is gonna try and go west. lets avoid the heartache and get something we could use right now!

If I'm Gainey I try to get a centre in return for him to play with Sammy and Higgins, move Plekanec back to the 4th line with Begin and Murray/Downey.
