many, many here held that view ...... others could see through the sideshow buzz and recognize the real problems ......

Another thing to remember, Schenn is a guy whose minutes increase if you're protecting a lead... something they haven't had yet.

Bryzgalov was still atrocious. Let's not pretend like he was a guy hung out to dry.

Bryzgalov was a major part of the problem. Imagine the team now, but with terrible goaltending; if we had Bryz now this team would be a solid contender for worst of the decade. At least they scored goals last year.

There is a clear distinction between:

1) Bryz being bad
2) Defense being bad
3) Offense being bad

Last year 1 was true, 2 was true, but 3 was false.
This year 1 is true, 2 is true, but 3 is true.

Let's not pretend that somehow Bryz was a case of mistaken suck.

This year, 1 will still be true, 2 needs to improve, and 3 fell off the face of the planet.

Bryz got fired, Laviolette didn't for whatever reason in the off-season. A lot of us wanted Laviolette gone after last season and after the preseason pretty much everyone did.

Not hard to figure out the problem there. There could be bigger problems with the offense but coaching is and definitely was the biggest problem.

Holmgren waited five months too long to fire Lavi and now the Flyers are having their training camp in October and playing games against well drilled teams at the same time.

Shockingly, that's not working out too well for them.

Holmgren's inability to fire ****ups is aggravating. He kept Stevens way too long. He kept Lavi way too long...just long enough to maximize how screwed the team is if they switch. And he continues to give Hanrahan employment as the capologist, despite the idiotic mistakes.

Yeah, not really rocket science to figure out that that is the one negative from last season that wasn't dealt with properly.

I don't expect every GM to know the ins & outs of the CBA when it comes to contracts but Hanrahan has let a few things that should have caused some red flags to him go by in recent years. It's really inexcusable to have one mistake let alone multiple when you're supposed to monitor this type of stuff.
