If Richie continues this pace and has this kind of year you cannot buy him out. When hes playing like this hes worth every bit of his contract.
True. But that only works if we have somebody to replace him. Which, we don't currently have. Nobody is ready for that role on the right side. Replacing through trade/open market, doesn't help unless the contract is significantly less than what we would've paid Girardi.
The only downside is that Boyle is the third line center.
Assuming AV intends to continue to utilize the third line as a checking line with primarily defensive zone starts, I don't view Boyle as a horrendous option. The bigger issue is the available wingers--Pouliot and Zuccarello don't have any place on a checking line.
