Pashnin and Valentenko are still technically Rangers property. Obviously neither of them will come over, and the Rangers have no plan for either of them.

Welcome to 2013.

OHL is now first in the CHL for goals scored, Q is 2nd and WHL 3rd. It has been like that for a few years.

I you go back 15-20 years ago, there were around 20 players who scored at least 100 points per season. In the past 3 season there were 4, 2 and 3.

The QMJHL can't be considered like the offensive league it was back in the 90's.

Could you cite that, by any chance?

It may be the case, but I still frequently have trouble finding a QMJHL goaltender with a save percentage above .900.

Half the league's starters had a save % above 0.900 last year. You're not looking very hard.

Fair enough. You have to admit, however, that it has a reputation, when it comes to high offensive output not translating to the pro game the way the WHL and OHL do.

I haven't seen the Q since Lewiston folded. So I can't speak from a position of authority when it comes to recent changes.

I just get a bit sensitive when people are judging a prospect's stats by the league he plays in.

Valentenko had two shots to make the team.

In 2010-11 it was a numbers game and he still had options (Sauer did not and would have got claimed) so he was sent down and had an up and down year.

In 2011-12 he had a groin injury in camp that led to a bad preseason and that's all she wrote. By that point Erixon was on board and Torts was infatuated with Bickel and Blake Parlett was still around so he was pretty low on the food chain.

Sometimes players just have bad luck and never really get a crack or chance to stick. Ivan Baranka and Jarko Immonen, two guys I really liked come to mind.

The Q has always been known for superstar forwards--Lafleur, Lemieux, Lafontaine, Crosby etc. and great goalies--Brodeur, Roy etc. Not nearly as many good defensemen or 2nd line and down to grinder forwards as the WHL or OHL. They've produced their fair share of goons though.

Yeah, I would like to see a counter argument because I haven't analysed it that much, but it does seem like the mid-level guys from the Q are very weak. Ie you don't associate that many players from that league coming to the NHL and not making it as scorers, but like a very steady checker or something.

It's early yet but skjei is looking like a different player this year. A lot of improvement since he started his freshman season. Looked like a shut down defenseman against a pretty good UNH team

Buchnevich picked up an assist today. 5 points in 16 games for the kid. Only played 8:22 though. I believe he has 3 points in his last 3 games (1G/2A).

Even if Buch isn't putting up many points, an 18 y-o sticking in the KHL is tremendous no matter what.

Calle Andersson had an assist and was +1. 1G/4A/5P in 8GP now.

I really hope we sign Andersson. We desperately need a PP quarterback with a right handed shot and he has done quite well, stat wise, with Malmo so far.

I was happy with what I saw from him last year. He is an effortless, dynamite skater with size. Maybe this is his last year as a Gopher?

I would think one more year in college after this one. He is very raw and d-men take longer to develop. He needs to continue to add muscle and round out his offensive game.

It may be a bit too early for this, but what do you think his ceiling is, and what you think he'll project to be?

Bret Hedican. Not TOO many points (although he has a rocket of a shot), great mobility and skating, plays a lot of minutes, all around very solid second pairing d-man.

The Rangers traded a 3rd in 2010 for Brian Boyle. LA used that selection on Jordan Weal. 5-10 170. Put up points in the WHL. 33 points in 68 games in the AHL last season. This is Boyle's 5th year with the Rangers. He has his faults but the guy is a NHLer.

Chicago traded a 2nd and a 3rd in 2013 for Oduya who was a pending free agent. They made that trade at the deadline on 2012. They re-signed Oduya. He was a big part of the Cup team. The Rangers tried that with Clowe who wanted too much money,he was too slow and too injury prone.

Sometimes you're better off trading a pick or picks for an established player. That player will play for you while the pick is a crapshoot.
McI having not played yet doesn't look bad at all when you see how little most of the others have played. Kreider is pretty much at the bottom of the list for his 1st round but there are a whole bunch drafted in the late 1st who are pretty much right with him. Some Moore kid is playing a lot perhaps as a function of being on columbus and some other garbage team .

i would not mind this one bit..Hedican was always an underrated defenseman... i just hope he does not turn into Tom Poti

I think the hope is he turns into John Moore. Similar builds, similar strengths. Moore may be a bit more offensively inclined while Skjei may be a bit more defensive but that is as good of a comparison as I can think of.

The Rangers acquire Oduya and they make the finals. Looking back now with 20/20 hindsight, the Rangers should have been more active at the 2012 deadline looking to improve their D. They spent too much time chasing after Rick Nash. Tortorella played 4 D. He had zero faith in the other guys with good reason. A 2nd and 3rd for Oduya. The Rangers traded their 2nd in 2013,Panthers 3rd in 13 acquired for Wolski and a 5th in 14 for Clowe. The 5th would have become a 2nd if they re-signed Clowe or won 2 playoff rounds. The Rangers have the Panthers 5th in June acquired for Wellman.

Yea it confuses me to this day that we didn't make any moves to help really solidify the best team we've had in a very long time but then spent draft picks last year on a guy like Clowe.
