I don't get why people want to trade Couts? He is 20 years old, great defensively, and cheap.

Trading Couturier right now would be the dumbest move this team could make. Look at Ryan Kesler. He didn't top 37 points until his sixth pro season! Imagine if the Canucks would've given him away to the Flyers for a 2nd round pick? They'd look like morons. Which is exactly what the Flyers would look like in two years when Couturier is a Selke caliber forward putting up ~50 points. Having Laughton is nice, but a prospect in the OHL hardly makes Couturier expendable.

The offense will come, just be patient.

Agree wholeheartedly. The season is 1/10 over and they are in bad shape. If they don't come out of this minicamp on fire and go 5-3 in the next two 8 game segments, which would make them 11-13 after 24 games, then they can pretty well write the season off and start getting ready for a firesale at the deadline.

Because we're going to need a player like him.

Trading Couturier just opens up a huge hole on the PK and on match ups against the opposition's best lines. People automatically assume that Laughton can fill in for him seamlessly, but that thinking is ridiculous.

Furthermore, what is Couturier's value at the moment? If some team was willing to overpay and send over a near NHL ready blue chip defensive prospect or a young defenseman who can play in the top 4 real soon, I'd probably be okay with it. I truly doubt he's going to return that right now, so I'm not keen on trading him.

I agree. The only glimmer of hope is that the Metropolitan division as a whole has been terrible and the inter-division games are coming up. If they can start winning those games, they still have a chance.

Leaf fan here.

Realistically speaking, the leafs dont really need Wayne Simmonds, but he is one of my favorite players. Defense is our target.

But just for fun, what would guys ask for in return if the leafs wanted simmonds? Again just for fun.

I wouldn't trade Grossmann. I think he's the best shutdown guy on the team, and that says a lot for a guy who's probably a 4-5. He and Couts are always out there tasked against main guys...ie Malkin in the playoffs in '11, and the Sedin's the other night.

Keep Giroux. maybe Couts depending on whats being offered for him. Start moving vets. This team for whatever reason is a failure. They need to find out what system the players want to play and use it because nothing else is working.

Simmonds
Coburn
Meszaros
2015 !st
2014 2nd

for

Eberle
Hemsky
Nurse/Klefbom

Is that a Leaf fan like proposal? Should I add any bad/decent prospects?

Eberle - Giroux - Voracek
Schenn - Lecavalier - Hemsky
Hartnell - Couturier - Read
Rinaldo - Hall - Talbot

Edit: I forgot Hartnell haha.

Who needs defense?

Couturier should not be traded. Laughton is not a sure thing. People need some patience.

What would you guys want from the Kings for Coburn or Grossman, and you would have to take Regehr in the trade.

Your pipeline is pretty much empty except Toffoli.
So no, there probably isn't a trade between the Flyers and the Kings.

Giroux
Voracek
Simmonds
Schenn
Couts
Read

They stay

Hartnell
Coburn
Talbot
Kimmo

If the team is still dreadful at the deadline, move them.

I don't understand the Talbot hate.... he is a good penalty killer and if kept on the 4th line, a fine player.... plus he isn't expensive.

So, he is doing his job just fine, or am I missing something here?

The thing we complain most about the Flyers and their philosophy is that they're impatient and they have no plan. Then we talk about getting rid of Schenn and Couturier. They haven't even played two full seasons in the NHL and we want to get rid of them? People need to calm down.

Couturier is one of the best defensive centers in the NHL. He has played 4th line (rookie year) and 3rd line (last year/this year) and his most consistent linemate has been Max Talbot...and we wonder why he's not putting up 75 points. This panicking and selling off everyone is getting embarrassing. Management -- although they may not have realized it -- pressed the reset button with Richards/Carter, so we've got to go through some growing pains. Patience. Anyway, do people really think this team as is is going to win the Cup? There are still moves to be made.

The core of Giroux, B Schenn, Couturier, Read, Mason should stay put. I'll even throw Luke Schenn in there. Everyone else should be available if the right deal comes along. But for ****'s sake, be patient. All the teams that have won have been patient developing talent. The Flyers have been doing a lot wrong for the better part of the last decade -- and much of that stems from impatience. Let's not continue that trend.

What?

Couturier is playing 3C right now, that's what Laughton projects to be. That's why people can rationalize moving Couturier. B Schenn has the highest offensive upside of the three IMO and isn't suited for the 3C role. With that said I wouldn't move Couturier right now either. I can't imagine his stock is very high at the moment.

Why anyone would want to move the Schenns is beyond me. Unless of course it was a ridiculous return.

I don't know either. Maybe because the coaching staff doesn't seem him as the 4th liner. He's always playing on the 3rd line it seems. But I agree he's a very good 4th liner. I wouldn't be trying to unload him unless the right deal came along.

It should be Eberle or nothing from the Oilers.
