Price obviously wants the starter spot but if Price was only playing hard to make the team I'd be on the trade train for him.

Price is playing hard for Montreal. Everything else is secondary.

To tell you the truth, he doesn't have much competition. Now if he was American...

You mean swedish , I like Quick he's a very good starting goalie top 10 , arguably top 5 in the NHL , but he get's the benefit of playing in front of a very talented defense.

Doughty/Voynov/Greene/Muzzin/Regher/Martinez.

Price is a candidate by default. Canada doesnt have anyone that has shined in the last couple of years. Luongo should be started as he's still very good and won gold in 2010. Price is great and all but fragile, although his performance in the WJC could influence Canada's management.

If you look at Quick, Rask/Rinne and Lundqvist, we have the worst goaltending along with Russia who will choose between Varlamov and Bobrovsky. That is a lot of pressure for a guy like Price, who will need to come up big in some of the biggest games of his life (if he's the starter) against incredibly great hockey teams. Can't let in any stinker like we're used to see from him, like Brodeur in 2010, they'll yank him quickly.

Price would be fine with an actual blueline in front of him, I suspect he would be the best if this was the case. Although I'm a big Cam Ward fan too.

Like many of you, I want to see what Price can do with an elite All Star calibre defense in front of him, one that includes Subban! I suspect he will be the goaltender Canada needs at the Olympics.

It'll shutup a lot of people that it's him rather than the team.

People seem to forget Montreal's defensive struggles the last 2 years, and then point to Price struggling, they go hand in hand. You put, Weber, Doughty, Subban, Pietrangelo, etc in front of him and Carey is going to be a rock.

It's like he has to win games by himself to be considered good. We have an all-star in net who is usually our best player, I wish Habs fans would cherish it instead of complaining over every goal. Price is a lock to make the team and almost a lock to be the starter, I can't wait for it!

Price will be able to play the puck on Olympic ice.

That is huge, people forget how huge that is with the trapezoid in place.

Yup, he's not Marty Brodeur at it, but he's a very talented puck mover. Should help the D immensely in Sochi.

No. He plays in front of a very good D but he is also a very good goalie. Roy played behind a good D...so did Brodeur. They were still great goalies.

Enough with this. Price's struggles had less to do with the D and more to do with his own game. We need to stop coddling this guy. When he plays well, he should get the credit...when he plays poorly he should take the blame too. Even he would admit that he played poorly in some games.

For sure. The guy is dynamite in the playoffs. Even last year Kings were pretty much outplayed by Blues, Quick was the difference. He's incredible when he gets in that zone!

Aside what I might feel about Price, the other Canada goaltender options are not very reassuring... Every guy has some knocks.

Of course, every goalie has bad games and ups and downs. No one faces the scrutiny Price does though and gets crapped on by his own so called fans...

Not even a remote concern for me. I have complete confidence in Carey's confidence. I just don't care about the Olympics. And care a lot about the Habs. I wouldn't want Price doing anything else to risk injury or wear himself down in the middle of an NHL season either... rodeo, surfing, playing for a semi-pro rugby team, whatever.

Price, Luongo and Ward.

That would be great.

I'd even like to see Ward as #2 and Luongo as #3, but no worries.

Price bailed on his wife the day after their wedding to go to the orientation camp, you don't think he wants this really bad? (Unlike Giroux who skipped it so he could 're-hab' a cut finger)

Those things leave an impression on Team Canada mgmt come selection time - who's really committed?

It's still early but he's looking really good last few games behind a bit of a band-aid D at times, will be great to have a Canadien (or 2) to cheer for at the Olympics

Luongo was in net when Canada defeated the US to win gold back in 2010. That winning Olympic experience matters, imo. Luongo isn't as great as he once was, but he's not terrible. 2.42 GAA and .912 save percentage aren't terrible, and those are Luongo's numbers right now. Crawford's numbers right now are 2.25 GAA and .919 save percentage - So he's a bit better than Luongo stats-wise right now, but Crawford also plays behind a better defense.

Crawford was genuinely phenomenal last year, but it's just one year (a shortened one at that). Prior to that he was an average No. 1 for a couple of years.

I wouldn't have a problem with Crawford making Team Canada, but I don't see where his case is all that much better than Luo's. Personally, I like having guys that won before on my team.

Is this so that Team Canada would be forced to play Price no matter what?

Price has played well considered that, without Subban (and Subban is a lock for the Olympic roster) the Habs D has never been the best.

I'll go with Crawford as #3. Don't know which goalie to put as #1 or #2 yet, but Luongo and Price are the goalies I'd play either as #1 or #2.
