And you don't think that team in 09 with Cutler struggling wasn't put in poor situations , etc?

Also has to cut his losses on his failed 1st rounder don't you think?

Jeffery alone has made that draft a success. The guy keeps getting better and better.

Sorry but one good pick in an entire draft is not a success

If you truly feel that way then most of Angelo's drafts then are winners

When you draft a star in the 2nd round - it's certainly a good start. And more than makes up for a bad first rounder.

Unless they go to a 3-4 I agree. Long looks really good though and 50/50 on picks would be a huge improvement for this team.

Here's and interesting thought, if cutler is hurt long term this could be his last game as a bear. Doing he gets a big contract based on his performance.

I already asked that and I think he would, just because there is so much garbage at QB in the NFL.

So the 09 and 08 drafts by Angelo were great then because he got Melton and Forte (Both future pro bowlers) and nothing else

The 2012 draft is a disaster. One great pick doesn't change fact that every other pick including a 19th overall has been failure

It would be like calling the 2005 Hawks draft great because they picked up Hjalmarsson (Ignoring all the Skille failure and rest of the failed picks)

Why does everyone keep talking about Cutler getting big contract? Media , etc seem fixated on this 100M number for some reason

From what we know talks between Bears and Cutler agent were going well before Trestman signing and the end of talks until this offseason

No reason a 4-5 year reasonable cap hit deal cant be reached. If Cutler and Bears both have interest in coming to deal they will find way

Cutler paid 10-15 QB $$$ would be fair for both sides

If the Bears continue to have draft guys like Jeffery, Long, Mills, etc and become a consistent contender no one will care about the 2012 draft, just like no one cares about Skille anymore.

Cutler will get tagged at worst. He's not going anywhere.

I think that would be amazing as it would allow the bears to spend money around him, but there has to be atleast five teams that would give him 50+

No, I think it's very possible but without knowing for sure, I can't just look at those stats and make conclusions

Bears can franchise him so those other teams really cant do much unless they are willing to cough up picks

Which drives up market price.

Simple economics.

Hate to say it but the season going in the tank may not be the worst thing. Go 6-10, get a top 10-12 pick. Rebuild the defense

Isn't this year's drafts supposed to be really deep at QB?

Maybe tank for a 10-12 pick, trade down a few spots, scoop up an extra 2nd+4th or 5th, take a QB in the 2nd/3rd round. Just spitballing.

Good idea. Sounds like Cutler is going to be done for a long time. I'm think Cutler does a 5 year deal for about $80-85 mil this off season.

Lots of dead weight to cut from the roster so they should be able to add some real pieces in free agency. Wonder if its time to finally move Tillman to free safety

Depends on who comes out. Almost all of them are juniors or RS sophs.
