Last season:
- Record after 8 games: 2-6
- Goals for: 16 (including 7 against Florida)
- Goals against: 23

This season:
- Record after 8 games: 1-7
- Goals for: 11
- Goals against: 24

It's Groundhog Season! I remember, too, that Bryzgalov was playing consistently well, and some dared to think that he might have turned the corner. This season, Mason is burning it up and, again, the skaters are looking like they're part of a really cheap table-hockey board.

I remember Bryz playing well, but I have more hope that Mason keeps it up considering that he has played well in all of his games so far as a Flyer. Plus he's 25, not 33 and not insane.

Mason is very quick and athletic, and actually makes an effort to find the puck when he is screened.

eventually, he'll get overworked if this keeps up. he's young, and Emery can take some games, but eventually it will catch up to us ...

There's no reason Mason can't play 60 games. Plenty of goalies play that many games. And he'll get a two week break in February.

Yeah I don't understand why people get worked up about things like this. If he can't handle a starting goalie's load of work, then he shouldn't be a starting goalie. Ideally, your best guy should starter 60 or so games year-in, year-out. Playing more should not be an issue either. You want him to play in the 60 game range, but if he plays 65-70, so be it.

60 games in net for a solid defensive team, who gives 60 minute efforts 95% of the time is fine.

thats not the Flyers.
he'll get worn down if the workload remains as is ...

It's nice to have a goalie so far make saves despite screens and deflections!

It's nice to have a goalie so far who makes big saves & stop the ones he's supposed to (sans the one in the Carolina game).

It's nice to finally have one of the best puckhandling goaltenders in the league.

Completely agree. Really underrated asset for us. It's really been bad for us the last decade or so. Bob did show improvement, but Mason's in a different league.

Is 6-7 with a .937 SV% and a 2.03 GAA as a Flyer. Pretty telling when a goalie is putting up close to Vezina type numbers, and has a losing record lol

It's nice to have a goalie who doesn't miss on every shot from the circles that 1) doesn't miss the net, and 2) isn't shot directly into him.

Better numbers than Bob in the early season, so that's a positive.

So if Mason gets back to form and becomes a top 10 goalie (not speculating he will, just hypothetically here) does Columbus get crap for trading him to the Flyers for MFL?

Imagine if Steve Mason is the second goalie in a row to win the Vezina on a non-playoff team.
