well, the can start by trading hemsky for anyone that hits. Tootoo will do. and if they don't improve by December, Eberle as well. in fact, if they can get a decent starting G for Eberle right now, done.

Give it a rest.

The Flames have no superstars but the Oilers have WAY more scrubs up front than Calgary.

Out of curiosity why is the poll not closed?

Votes should be in by now and with no new votes accepted.

I love how a bunch of Flames fans felt the need to come on here and vote for them

After the season started. Before they were busy burning down the board Flames board.

There are some timing posts occurring.

I'd rather kill myself than become a Nucklehead. But, that being said, if the Flames do finish ahead of us, I'm done with this team.

Even if the Oilers finish behind the Flames I'll still be dragging my ass back here and *****ing and moaning about how crappy they are. The team and everyone here won't be getting off that easy to see me gone and no longer a fan.

I'll probably just get crankier and crankier with each sucktastic year that goes by... like IATL or any of the others here that have already succumbed to the vortex of perennial doom that this team manages to suck loyal and faithful long-term fans into.

Looks like they got a good one there in Monahan. Wish we had someone like him in the system. Nevertheless, Oil gotta step their game up.

lol. i'm on my way too. never jumping ship, but might get quieter about being an Oiler fan.
maybe the Oil will become like the Cubs or the Leafs. the lovable losers. ok, i'm getting carried away.

... its only 2 games. its only 2 games. its only 2 games. its only 2 games. its only 2 games.....

We can't mock the Leafs anymore after they ended their playoffless streak last year.

The Oilers are the current reigning and defending NHL Playoffless Champions of the World.

I would give up watching hockey before becoming a Canucks fan. No question.

For about five minutes today, I pondered becoming a hybrid Wings/Jets fan and leaving the Oilers in the background until they made the playoffs... but I couldn't do it.

The thing that makes this tricky is that the Flames have more try and grit in their lineup making them a tough team to play.

The Oilers have more talent but they also have an unbalanced lineup with little to no top 6 grit and outside of Smid a fairly passive defence.

You beat the Oilers by using a high tempo forecheck and a strong cycle.
The Canucks used that formula and made it look easy on Saturday.
Other teams will be taking notes.

Their is no excuse for the Oilers not to finish ahead of the Flames considering the Oiler have sucked for 7 years and acquired a bunch of top picks as a result. That doesnt mean the Flames will be as bad as the Oilers have been during their rebuild though.
Tambo was about as incompetent as it gets.

maybe, but unlike this Oilers team, the Flames have already proven they can play effective hockey for an 8 games stretch.

And the Oilers were sitting at the top of the conference after October a few years ago.

I'm really scared. I voted to become a Canucks fan. I can't stand Vancouver fans and I'm not talking about on HFboards. I'm talking about hockey fans in Vancouver. Lived there for a decade and before moving there I never fathomed that a Canadian hockey market could have so many fair weather fans.

I'm not even going to be sad if we finish behind Calgary. I'll be downright pissed off.

This swarm defense is just terrible, they always leave a guy open and in the NHL they are that good to find the open man.

The Flames are likely going to finish ahead of us, which is something I never though I'd say this year. They are *clearly* the more complete team right now, and its not even close. This Oilers team is the worst Oilers team I've ever seen, and I'm including all the teams the finished last. Just no composure to their game, look like they have no idea what they are doing on most nights. The Oilers are just a terrible, terrible, terrible hockey team. The Flames don't have any skill, but they are a much better hockey *team* right now.

The Oilers managed a win against the Habs but they looked very sloppy.
I lost count of how many puck battles they lost and they look confused in their own end more often than not.

The confusion may be as a result of the poor systems play but losing puck battles is a product of will and determination.

Lars Eller was right...the Oilers do look like a Junior team most nights in terms of the lack of structure.

Structure and determination are qualities the Flames have in spades.
They are a much tougher team to play against at this point.

Hopefully that changes...sooner rather than later.

yeah, i kept thinking during the game "eller is right, we DO look like a junior team, especially in our own end"... complete lack of systems play, and its not like this team is full of 19 year olds playing their first games either.... RNH, eberle, hall all have 3+ seasons.... really its only yakupov and j.schultz that have the "i'm young" excuse still.... what is the rest of the teams excuse?

Just a heads up, Monahan has 9 points not 9 goals. I had to check that one out myself.

PHO looks amazing tonight. Every pass looks like it is made with a purpose and they are positioned perfectly. Just toying with CGY tonight.
