Dan Hamhuis

Ever since the 10/11 Vancouver Canucks Stanley Cup run I have been completely enamored with Dan Hamhuis. The way he plays appears tailormade to be slotted in beside Dion Phaneuf on our top pairing. At age 30, with 2 years remaining at 4.5M per year I feel his contract is also great bang for buck for what he brings to the table.

So Vancouver Canuck fans, say you guys are outside the playoff picture at the deadline (not saying they will be, just hypothetically) or you guy suffer a 1st round defeat and decide to mix it up a little bit..

What would it take to acquire the godlike defenseman known as Dan Hamhuis?

Yeah, either JVR, Lupul, or Kadri wold have to be involved imo.

Although Hamhuis has a NTC, and is signed to a hometown discount, so even if in theory a deal could be reached, it's unlikely Hamhuis gets traded.

Yeah JVR ain't going no where. I mean I know he's good, but from what I've been hearing and watching, he hasn't been so impressive this season and is getting out performed by the likes of Edler Bieska and Garrison

I'd Still give up Gardiner + Kulemin and a prospect or something

He sucked for the first 6-7 games, but looking good now. He is far and away better than Edler or Juice. Garrison is making it difficult to say that Hammer is our clear cut #1 though. Not that it's a bad thing, Garrison is a beast.

Umm, I like Hammy, but better than Edler? Not a chance.

Having said that, not interested in moving him.

As others have mentioned JVR is the only piece that would get Hamhuis out of Vancouver, and even then I would be very hesitant to move him.

If Hamhuis gets traded the main piece coming back would be a forward.

Not even close.

And in reality, Hamhuis wouldn't waive his NTC. He turned down more money from the Flyers and Penguins to sign here since he and his wife wanted to live here.

JVR and Gardiner would be the ideal return for Hamhuis.

Hamhuis had an awful start to the season but the last couple of games he's slowly looking back like himself.

Yea, that's what I had in mind as well. That would make me think twice and anything less seems pointless.

Even ignoring the NTC, I think I'd rather keep this defense together. It may be the best D corps in the league with the way they are all playing under Torts. Aside from Hamhuis they are all hitting the high end of expectations for them and Hamhuis' issue was with fighting the puck on his stick for the first 6 games - looks like it was just a string of bad luck.

Not sure whether it's Tort's system or just a slump he's in. The guy is always hanging onto the puck a second too long. Almost likes he misjudges how fast forechecker's are enclosing on him. Really out of character for a solid Salo-esque defender.

I'd do JVR for Hamhuis straight up. Unfortunately Hamhuis won't be waiving his NTC to leave Vancouver.

If Gillis had any balls he'd try to get one of our top 4 D to waive. Our defense is probably one of the best in the league, but we have a bottom 5-10 forward group in the league that needs help.

Lol, godlike. Yeeah...no.

He's a hometown boy, he likely will stay as long as the team wants him, then either walk via free agency or go to another team that will pay him the big bucks in a city he wants to play in or has a shot at the cup.

IMO he's our third best defenceman after Edler and Garrison. It would take a lot, like JVR.

JVR + Gardiner

Hamhuis

Most likely he isn't going anywhere.

Do you really think Garrison is better than Hamhuis?

While I certainly don't expect to like the answer I hear, what would you want from Washington?
