I know that HF boards do NOT constitute truth... BUT... when arguing whos better..the only thing we have that is unbiased (to some degree) is the majority of peoples opinions...

hamhuis 23 phaneuf 24.

There are just as many Vcr haters as there are TML..AND there are more TML fans on here than Vcr fans.....

Anyways, according to popular opinion they are about equal, slight edge Hamhuis.

I think they'd make an awesome pairing.

While I don't think he is close to being one of the best dman in the league (as in top 10 or top 5), he has played insanely well this year as Torts has utilized him a lot more than AV ever did. He's sneaking into the best dman in the league talks in my opinion, yet he isn't there yet.

I agree, but I think it's close. Hamhuis has a nice contract, too.

I don't think he's far and away our best, I also don't think he's one of the best in the league, though I do agree he is alot better than he sometimes gets credit for.

I am quite happy with our defense top to bottom and would be hesitant to alter it... we do have a couple young D coming up that could allow us to move one of our big guys but the price would be high and its thinking about things like this that make me happy I am not a GM.

It's tough to take you seriously when you throw in a "LMAO" a "lmaoo" and a "hahahahahahaa".

And you're a Leaf fan, so yes, when discussing a Leaf player, you will naturally be biased. I'm not going to get into the Hamhuis vs Phaneuf debate, but Hamhuis, when on his game, is one of the best defensmen in the league.

I do not see it a significant reach to claim Garrison is a top 20 defenseman, provided he keeps up with how he's played since his breakout year. "Best in the league"? No.

Yeah, I did. Garrison isn't a top 20 dman, sorry. If Varly keeps playing the way he has, is he a top 10 goalie? Didn't think so

Dude Phaneuf is terrible..... His play goes to s*** after eclipsing 25 + minutes, Hamhuis thrives off heavy minutes. Hamhuis is better at every defensive aspect of the game

[QUOTE=HockeyThoughts;73085891]Ever since the 10/11 Vancouver Canucks Stanley Cup run I have been completely enamored with Dan Hamhuis. The way he plays appears tailormade to be slotted in beside Dion Phaneuf on our top pairing. At age 30, with 2 years remaining at 4.5M per year I feel his contract is also great bang for buck for what he brings to the table.

So Vancouver Canuck fans, say you guys are outside the playoff picture at the deadline (not saying they will be, just hypothetically) or you guy suffer a 1st round defeat and decide to mix it up a little bit..

What would it take to acquire the godlike defenseman known as Dan Hamhuis?

Haha. Gillis won't trade with Nonis after Nonis displayed how unprofessional and petty he is. Hamhuis will never play for Toronto. End of story.

Phaneuf can't even tie his skates.

C'mon guys, just a little bit more and we could turn this thread into a massive flame war.

I think I'm the only canucks fan who likes Phaneuf lol.. just don't like him at 25+ minutes per game.

Hamhuis isn't a game changer, but he's a game saver. Makes those defensive plays, while quietly putting up 30-40 points.. Great shut down guy, and I like that comparison to Vlasic's value.

Also agree with canucks fans as well, though. Has to be a top six forward + a guy who can currently slot into the top six, but has the potential to be a top 3 guy. (no long term projects)

Would have to be JVR. doubt you guys want to give him up, though..

JVR+gunnarson for Hamhuis + something small makes sense to me..

If he plays that way for long enough then I don't see why not. Garrison has been better than Hamhuis for the past two seasons, so I don't think it's unreasonable for us to say that he's better right now. I don't think Garrison is a top defender right now, but he's been playing like one since probably halfway through last season. It's too early to put him in the top 10, or top 30, but it's not something it that out of the realm of possibility in the future.

Hamhuis is better than Edler, and the vast majority of Canucks fans would agree to that, heck even non Canucks fans would agree.
