If Edler can keep up his play this season I think most would consider him better.

If by better you mean more goals, then sure, but he's not a better DEFENCEMAN than Hamhuis.

Edler brings a hell of a lot more to the table, but doesn't perform to his potential a decent amount of the time. The beautiful thing about Hamhuis is (aside from the first 7-8) games of this year, he brought the same, quiet, shudown game every night.

I agree when both players are on top of their games I'd take Edler, but based on consistency through out an entire season it's Hamhuis. Lord Flacko I do agree with your point though, if Edler can play this way throughout the season I may just change my mind.

This is the right answer. When he's really on his game he's Norris caliber (see the 2011 Chicago series). When he's not he can be the worst player on the team (see the 2012 LA series).

He does seem to have leveled out a bit this year though. Hopefully he can keep it up.

What would it take from Colorado to snag him? I saw Stastny thrown around in here earlier but that doesn't seem like enough to get Hamhuis

Nah, I don't think so. Hamhuis and Edler are better.

If Hamhuis didn't have a NTC, I would ask for ROR.

That's what it would probably take to get Hamhuis, but I don't think I would trade a 22 year O'Reilly for a 30 year old Hamhuis. The value is there, but I doubt you guys would want to trade him either hahah

I was going to ask for the same player actually. Well glad we acknowledge that it won't happen (too bad, ROR has been playing damn well), can agree on what it would likely take, and not get all uppity about Hamhuis >>>>>>> O'Reilly, or O'Reilly >>>>>>>> Hamhuis.

I mean, I'd ask for that bust prospect Mackinnon instead, I know how terrible he's been and how Avalanche fans can't wait to run him out of town

You have admitted that you haven't watched a lot of the Canucks recently, in this thread.

Why exactly are you arguing with people who are talking about the CURRENT play and production of our D-men.

Have Hamhuis and Edler typically been our best defesemen year to year? Yes.

Has Garrison blown them out of the water since halfway through last season? Uhhhhh yeah. He's rock-solid defensively and is one of the league leaders in points for D-men.

So when people say Garrison is playing like one of the best d-men in the league, which is true, I'm not sure exactly what you're taking issue with.

Can we just agree that we have 3 solid top pairing d-men?

... and Bieksa

No but seriously Bieksa has really stepped up this year. He's been solid all around and clutch as hell.

We are obviously biased in picking a BC boy and Canuck (Garrison) over Hamhuis

Sorry boys, IMO Hamhuis is NOT going to return that level of player. Not a chance Colorado, or any other team, trades a top - hard nosed - two way center for Hamhuis. Vancouver might get an over paid guy, who is only good in one end of the ice, like a Stastny (sp?) Of course Vancouver could have just drafted ROR, when they had the chance, istead of Schroeder.

Vancouver has one of the best top 4's in the league in Edler-Garrison-Hamhuis-Bieksa, I think all Canuck and non Canuck fans can agree on that. Because it definitely isn't our strong forward crop (outside of Sedins and Kesler) driving the bus...

Honestly Landeskog or bust. Before Avs fans flame me, I know you guys wouldn't do this.

Why wouldn't Vancouver get a high quality player for arguably their best D-Man? Seriously I don't get this at all Hamhuis is top pairing D-Man who skates extremely well, has a great first pass and is one of the best shutdown d-man in the league, we aren't trading him for Paul Stastny.

Well, your evaluation of what Hamhuis is worth pretty much told everyone you don't know what you're talking about, and as if further proof was needed, you say this.
