As for Donnay and Tolchinsky, due to our lack of great point producing forwards both on the team and in the system, and our relatively solid defensive corps, I thought the team should have made a play for a skilled forward that might be a good top 6 player vs another defenseman with top 4 potential.
maybe Rangers took Donnay because Rangers dont have much grit on defense after McIlrath (ready by end of this season), Allen (most likely ready next year) and Noreau (3 years away at least). Graves is a few years away from pro hockey, Skjei and Andersson are skating defenseman.. maybe that is the reason..

At no point this offseason were we at 50 contracts. It wasn't an either-or situation with Tolchinsky and Donnay. I don't know what they have to do with each other.

Yeah that might be true. I have only seen one game of his and then clips of him at traverse but he didn't strike me as overly physical, but like I just said I haven't really seen him that much.

The point is that Tolch is even smaller than Zucc and Zucc has trouble dealing with men. I don't see how you can expect Tolch to overcome that if he can't even put on weight.

You really think Noreau is 3 years away? I'm thinking he will be #6/7 in 2 years.

I'd have given Tolchinsky a spot over Donnay, sure, but we didn't. So I'm not worried about him. I'll pay attention to Donnay and hope he pans out.
Shin is in the process of busting out, for sure. He even put up almost a 2.0 PPG in his overage WHL year.

So this is no proof that Tolchinsky is going to be a superhero, by any measure.

I dont expect him too. I just didn't think there was that much risk to giving him a shot. That's all.

Sauer was not really ready for a while although he had his share of injuries.. i kept reading about Noreau's skating, i think he will need to get better before he takes the next step.. 3 years away isnt a bad thing, he is in the ECHL now for a reason.. if he makes the NHL at 23 as a full time player, that is not a bad thing, especially for dman which they take a little longer.

It will be at least 3 years for Noreau. Probably at least a half year in the ECHL, then at least a couple in the AHL

On paper, your right.

But I will go out on a limb and say, on record, Noreau gets cup of coffee end of next year in advance of competing for bottom pair.

Subject to what the roster is and if we are thin/heavy at RD, which respectively increases/decreases odds of this.

He is not that close. He needs to seriously work on his skating and pivoting in order to keep up. There is no rush.

Haven't been paying attention for a week or so but it looks like Duclair is doing real well. 10 goals in 13 games.

That largely depends on what you mean by «real well», but yes, he's doing fine. Meaning, better than those who made linear predictions, and about what the more realistic (in my opinion) ones expected.

Clear progression, with few bad games, but not dominating the league yet. He seems to be taking the right way to eventually get to the NHL. Some nights he is incredible though, so who knows how far he can go.

Skjei picked up the secondary assist on the first Minnesota goal. Hit Rau in stride with a nice stretch pass that ended up with Rau getting a weak shot on net. Scrum on the rebound and it was banged in.

His skating is incredibly good. Not just the speed and acceleration, but his pivots are effortless and his edge work is fantastic. He's on the top pairing with Reilly, but he's definitely the stay at home guy on the pairing. He doesn't seem to be getting any PP time either. Wouldn't expect big numbers from him this year unless that changes.

Yeah, it's on the Big Ten Network or whatever it's called. Unfortunately I can't watch the rest of the game, but I'm recording it and will try and catch it later.

I saw the Minnesota game. Second Minny game I have seen this season. Benjimi State last Friday was the first. Brady is a defensive D. He isn't an offensive guy. The BC game was a crazy game. The first period was pond hockey. Minnesota played with 5 D most of the game.

Skjei is getting top pairing minutes this year.. Like someone mentioned above, he is morphing into a shut down defenseman. He won't score a lot in the NHL but he is looking like he will be a nice puck moving top 4 D man. He's a lock for the world junior team along with teammate hudson fasching in that video. Crazy game last night against BC.

Great news that Skjei went from getting bottom pair minutes last season to getting top minutes this year.

Duclair scored four goals tonight. That's 14 in 14 games. 20 points total. Great start to the season for the kid.
