Anton Lander

He was just named Captain of OKC Barons

With 6GP 2G 3A 5P 0+/-

his offence is coming around , I know small sample size , but is there a player there for our nhl team .

3rd/4th C or is it still possible for a top6 C with a strong 2 way game ???

tbh I prefer that hes getting top minutes in the AHL , would you honestly prefer from him to play 4th line minutes in the nhl instead of trying to round out his offence in the AHL ??

Lander never will or never has had offence. He might be able to produce in Ahl Nhl is different story PRV packed way more offence than Lander in Sweden on same team.

Lander got a fair shake in preseason but did not do himself any favors.
Arcobello earned it.. Acton stayed up by not sucking more than Lander.

I think by giving him the C they might be planning on keeping him down there all season.

Yes... Lander is going to be a bottom 6 player in the NHL.. He is not down in AHL to work on his offense but other skills needed to be a successful bottom 6 NHLer.

Lander that is 55% on the dot + 2hits\game pace in AHL > Lander that is scoring at PPG.

Good for Anton.

And him seeing Arco having success on the big team means there might be some light at the end of the tunnel for Lander. I know he'll never be a top six guy, but if he can find his role and work hard at it, he'll be on this team come next season.

Hopefully we can get Hartikainen back next year too. I like the idea of those two playing together. So long as they're both not devoid of any kind of offense.

Nelson said this pretty explicitly in a presser that they were waiting to name a captain because they wanted to name someone who'd be on the team all year.

In terms of Lander, I think we are waiting for him to become Boyd Gordon: a guy who will play hard, do the little things right, and go up and down the line-up in a pinch.

That's what I expect and I hope we never draft a guy that early again with that kind potential.

Now this will be interesting...

Swedish defenseman Philip Larsen (kidding LaGu!) will be playing RW on the top line with Omark and Lander. He and Bachman are playing their former team.

Here's the full lineup tonight versus Texas:

Omark - Lander - Larsen
Nesbitt - Broda - Miller
Fyten - Stretch - Ford
Kessy - Ewanyk - Lizon

Davidson - Fedun
Marincin - Klefbom
Musil - Hunt

Bachman

Well, it's not like players taken after him are tearing the league apart. There are hardly any guys there who are established NHLers at this point.

The only guys that played any NHL games are Tyson Barrie (COL), Dmitry Orlov (WAS), T.Tatar (Detroit), Alexander Urbom (WAS), David Savard (CBJ). Lander has played more games than any of these players.

If you can take a player in the 2nd round who becomes as reliable a 3rd liner as B.Gordon--that's a success. If the player becomes a 1st/2nd liner or 1st/2nd pairing defenseman, that's a home run pick.
Franchise players are so rare that if you get one in any round, you are lucky.

Here comes Hemsky's eventual replacement.

That forward line-up looks ugly from the perspective of prospects' depth. Seriously, we only have one legitimate forward prospect in the AHL in Lander, and even his upside is likely a 3rd-4th liner in the NHL. Ewanyk and Kessy are pretty much unknowns at this point. Defence looks solid though.

His upside was supposed to be higher. Maybe P. Bergeron?

Anyhow, he's a tad too slow and small for my liking for the NHL (AHL he's fine) - meaning he gets stripped of the puck too easily. Same issues I've had for years - so it's disappointing his development has stalled.
