Frans Nielsen is a very good and skilled player, all over the ice. Without him the Islanders would be a much lesser team and probably wouldn't have made the playoffs last year. Saw him play with Denmark at the World Championships a year ago. You didn't have to be a professional scout to tell him and Eller apart from the rest of the pack....

He's on a hot streak right now. He won't be in the top echelon of scoring to end the season, but he'll put up around 60 while also being responsible defensively. I would love Nielsen on the Hawks.

Tavares is the scrub. That's the point of the topic.

No, JT is Tyler-Bozak-Elite haven't you heard?

But Frans Nielsen has always been really good and he's only getting better.

I was under the impression that Tavares was the only reason that they made the playoffs, or so I'm told.

Nielson is a good player. He's on a hot streak right now and I don't think he'll be anywhere near it by the end of the season, but good for him regardless.

He's not a scrub player by any means. He's just not this good offensively.

You only hear that from fans who don't watch the games. Every Isles fans knows the big reason why they made the playoffs was secondary scoring by the other lines. The 2nd line was fantastic down the stretch offensively and defensively. JT carried the team in the first half of the season to keep them somewhat in it.

I think a big thing is supporting cast is showing up early this year. Most years Bailey and KO, dont even start to really produce until halfway thru the season. Right now Bailey/Grabner/KO are right about 1ppg.... that is helping out everyone on the first 2 lines.
If Bailey/KO dont go into a crazy slump this year, I can see Nielsen getting 60 points this year. He really has a good shot. 60pts with his defensive skill would be awesome.

I'll never understand why more NHL centers don't model themselves on Bozak's game.

He's never been good on faceoffs so they basically let his linemates take them for him

First of all..if you've never heard of Frans Nielsen you have problems.

Second of all, Nielsen has been one of the Islanders best players for the last 4 or 5 years, one of the best PKers in the league, and the best shootout player in the NHL (up until this season thus far).

Thirdly, Nielsen has better linemates than Tavares does hence he is currently putting up more points, not to mention he also plays the point on the 1 PP unit WITH Tavares.

They are only a couple of points apart...its early in the season.

Frans Nielsen is a hockey player in the NHL. I tend to refer to him as 'NHL player Frans Nielsen' to avoid mix ups with this well known oilfield worker:

I think NHL player Frans Nielsen is related to NHL player Derek Morris but I could be wrong.

IE: Crosby, Ovie, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Stamkos, St.Louis...

although it is early in the season and Tavares most likely passes Nielsen some time soon.
John Tavares is on pace for 98 points right now, while consistently getting double and triple teamed out there. The game against Carolina, there were a couple shifts where the entire team converged on him.

Im not sayin Nielsen is an elite superstar...

But this thread does add to the notion that Nielsen is among the most underrated players in the league...

Both Hudler and Steen has been 6-7 points out of the top 50 before so it's certainly not unthinkable it might happen. In fact, I do think it will happen. They play bigger roles now and have great starts.

Nielsen is a good player, liked him since his sel days

This is it in a nutshell. Now if the defense and goaltending can just sort itself out....

Frans Nielsen is simply a better hockey player than JT. Is JT the most overrated player in the NHL? Now that Giroux has fallen from his pedestal back to the reality of him being average, surely JT has taken that spot.
