Hey, in that first clip, at around the 30 second mark, there's a Belov on Yakimov's team (#44). Any relation to our guy, or is it just a common name? We could use more like him.

PS: I think you linked to the same video twice. =)

sorry guys, messed up a bit. here's the second goal.

Belov is a common Russian last name, derived from the root bel meaning white. funnily, all currently active Belov's in hockey i know of are D-men. this particular one was Nikolai Belov, a fine tough stay-at-home D-man who played for Russia at 2011 WHC, and he isn't related to Anton.

The fact that he was a 1st rounder in the Bantam Draft means Diddly squat. Its a dime a dozen of those guys who don't even get a sniff in the NHL draft. Everyone knows that (or at least should).
Its far, far far more impressive been a 7th round draft pick in the NHL. It ain't even close.

Lol no it means they were the most coveted players in midget many go on to 1st round picks in nhl draft but thx for weak counter argument Rnh being chosen 1st overall in bantam draft meant diddly squat as well.

You should do a bit of research before you spout your mouth off. RNH is a huge exception to the rule. Ever hear of Alex Forsberg. Thats far more common.
And the kids in the bantam draft here in western Canada are but a small snippet of the kids throughout the world at that level, never mind the likelihood of even getting drafted in the Show.
Nowhereof you speak, cause its clear you don't.
Ask any parent/scout who has a clue. The likelihood of a kid who is drafted in the 1st round of the bantam draft getting drafted in the NHL ain't that good. The fact that you seem to be of the opinion that a kid like Chase who gets drafted in the 7th round of the NHL draft, is somehow not living up to his Bantam draft position s frankly comical and show a clear lack of any understanding.

Yup pick out one bust Hall 1st overall Bantam draft Crosby many many others what is comical is your lack of understanding of how many great players are drafted out of first round Bantam draft Oreilly another. Chase always had skill had meh couple seasons adjusting to whl but scouts seen his skill out of midget NHL scouts missed it. You have no clue go pick another bust for example I can as well Stefan How many 1st round picks in NHL bust loool lots as well

I'm going to have to disagree with you also. Being a high pick in the Bantam draft means nothing until they prove it in junior and beyond that. Teubert was a 1st overall pick I believe, didn't turn out great. Forsberg is another. There are much more busts than exceptions. As the other poster said, do your research before you make posts like this and call him out for lack of understanding.

Again , your total lack of understanding of the odds of a 1st rounder in the Dub draft getting drafted in the NHL make it clear you really shouldnt speak on the subject. Your silliness is compounded by suggesting that getting drafted in the 7th round of the NHL draft is somehow disappointing cause you got drafted in the 1st Round of the Dub draft & is profoundly hilarious & clueless.
Do some research kid & then come back & play

Like I said there are busts in 1st round NHL draft as well anyways no use arguing here are the facts check for yourself go up year by year in Ohl Priority draft and whl draft , proof right here many great players in league are drafted in 1st round midget draft . Look at all the years now prove me wrong . Look at NHl games from 1st round picks to second round out of these drafts.http://www.eliteprospects.com/draft_...=2005&type=OHL Priority Selection now do your research before you spout off.

So ignore the ohl that I showed because we all know that is where majority of nhl players come from and why you show one year my link shows all Tavares Stamkos Couture O'reilly Seguin Skinner Hall Doughty etc etc etc taken 1st round midget draft and just like NHL scouting junior scouting has improved leaps as well since 2000 Pietrangelo Del Zotto Bogosian Kadri Hodgson RNH should I go on all 1st round busts from bantam draft

I used the WHL as an example. Greg Chase comes from the WHL, why isn't that appropriate?

Not to mention all you're doing is repeating yourself and the point is that yes, once in a while there are exceptions but what's more alarming is the amount that end up as busts. Doughty was the 6th overall pick in 2005.. three players who are currently in the ECHL, DEL and AHL were picked ahead of him. Chase being picked high in the Bantam draft means nothing.. As much as I'd love for him to end up being a stud I'm not getting my hopes up because he was a late 1st pick..

I said its not surprising Chase is excelling now he was a coveted midget player he obviously had skill, than I am told midget draft means squat than I prove it does not .

Do some research kid & then come back & play
When did I say being drafted 7th round was disappointing , Hey I have shown all the great players taken out of Bantam draft , so now you put words in my mouth to try and state your case, lol reach all you want the lack of understanding is you reading a post to begin with.

2006- Cowen, Ferraro, Howse, Bubnick, Eakin, Ashton, Gardiner, Schenn, Boychuk, Elliott, Lieuwen, Barrie, Kane (62%)

2007- Howden, Moffatt, Pysyk, Ross, Theriau, Sundher, Connolly, Madaisky, Ranford, Czerwonka, Bunz, Simpson (55%)

2008- RNH, Rattie, Siemens, St. Croix, McNeill, Smith, Murray, Scarlett, McColgan, Bell, Yuen (50%)

2009- Pouliot, Rielly, Reinhart, Dumba, Stephenson, Winther, Walters, Hodges, Jones, Troock, Shinkaruk, Roy, Olsen (59%)

Average 57%... so being first round WHL pick means 1 in 2 become NHL draft pick... can you find a better predictor... bet not

Little over every one out of two... pretty good odds for something so fluid as junior kids... so much changes

Oh I agree its a predictor of sorts, but by no means a gaurantee.
My point as suggesting that because you were a 1st round pick in the Dub & were afterwards picked in the 7t round of the NHL draft that you are somehow not fufilling your promise is ridiculous. Fact is he more than lived up to his billing, both in NHL draft & in his performance in the Dub. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous
That was my point

He has always lived up to his billing.
You are clearly implying that both his earlier play in the Dub & his draft position in the NHL were such that he "hadnt lived up to his billing"'
.
In any event. Im finished with this issue. Ive made my point. You get drafted to the Show, & I dont care where.. With very , very few exceptions, no matter where you were picked in the Dub draft, you have "lived up to your billing", and much, much more. To not really understand that, well, Im finished with this topic

Do you think if he was scoring over a gpg in Whl last year he would of made it to 7th round? like I said we stole him and his first 2 years are underwhelming compared to this season. But hey you said Bantam draft means squat than agrees with another poster where he shows it does not. Give it up already.

As the other poster said, do your research before you make posts like this and call him out for lack of understanding.
Since this is common theme... and people keep saying do research... I have done research and here it is...

Billybaroo said this:

Quote:
The likelihood of a kid who is drafted in the 1st round of the bantam draft getting drafted in the NHL ain't that good.
So we have to take away from this one assumption... "ain't that good" means "is not as good as something else". Otherwise what is the point... we cannot say 50% or 60% or 81.5% are "good"... must be comparative right... so let us dull it down to this since it seems to be common argument

"The likelihood of a kid who is drafted in the 1st round of the bantam draft getting drafted in the NHL is not any higher than those drafted in rounds 2+"

We can also look at Billybaroos other argument...

Quote:
Its far, far far more impressive been a 7th round draft pick in the NHL (than a first round Bantam draft pick). It ain't even close.
Again we will suppose "impressive" here means the odds are better that they become an NHL player... otherwise it is too subjective to talk about...

So 1. "The likelihood of a kid who is drafted in the 1st round of the bantam draft getting drafted in the NHL is not any higher than those drafted in rounds 2+"

I will pick 2003 QMJHL Bantam Draft at random... you can define another if you want but I will use that as sample...

Round 1- 8/16 (50%)
Round 2- 5/16 (31%)
Round 3- 1/16 (6%)
Round 4- 2/16 (12.5%)
Round 5- 1/16 (6%)
Round 6- 0/16 (0%)
Round 7- 0%
Round 8- 0%
Round 9- 0%
Round 10- 2/16 (12.5%)
Round 11-15- 0%

These numbers are reproducible... easy to do... just look it up... this is one case among many... dozens... of first round being better at producing first rond NHL pick than other rounds

2. "Its far, far far more likely a 7th round draft pick in the NHL becomes a NHL player than a first round Bantam draft pick."

Okay so here we need two data sets... let us pick 2001 OHL Priority Selection first round... and 2004 NHL Draft 7th round

OHL Draft- 11/20 appeared in at least one NHL game (55%)

NHL Draft- 12/33 appeared in at least one NHL game (36%)

Right away we can see 2) is wrong... by nearly 20% difference...

So now that I have done research... we can stop this line of inquiry yes....

Can you door knobs take your bickering about the bantam draft into another thread? It's my understanding that this thread is so we can drop in and look at how oiler prospects are doing without wading through 40 posts of stuff not related to that topic.

Great news. After a pretty impressive camp I hope he takes a giant leap this year.
