Aldo/Lamas and Cruz/Barao at UFC 169

Quote:
Dominick Cruz will return to the octagon Feb. 1, 2014 in Newark, and he'll do so as the second champion on the Super Bowl Weekend event, UFC officials told Newsday.

Cruz will defend his bantamweight title against interim champion Renan Barao at UFC 169 at the Prudential Center.

The main event will feature Jose Aldo defending his featherweight championship belt against Ricardo Lamas.

Both bouts have been verbally agreed to by the fighters.

Aldo/Llamas will be interesting if Llamas can get his hands on Aldo. Barao/Cruz is meh. Cruz will be riverdancing all night while Barao will be throwing spin attacks and haymakers.

Tough crowd. I think that's shaping up to be a pretty good card.

Featherweights are pretty much average sized males who have get down to 145 by a combination of staying lean and then cutting water weight. There's even been six foot tall guys fight at that weight. It just seems that the average North American male is so overweight that they don't evenn know what a normal sized weight is anymore.

Yep, hell of a lot better than watching an overweight slob like Nelson get embarrassed by any fighter with talent as we've been subjected to multiple times in the co-main slot.

Not the greatest Superbowl card but two title fights and an interesting HW fight between Mir and Overreem is a good start.

According the link, the average american male is 5'9.5" the average Canadian 5'9". 5'8" is slightly less than that. Some FWs are 5'11. If you think 5'8" qualifies as "a little person" rather than "slightly below average," then unfortunately we'll have to agree to disagree.

If you don't know what a hyperbole is, then I can't help you.

Majority of top 10 feathers are 5'7" and less. They're not average sized American males. And I am not even mentioning bantams.

I am done having this stupid discussion.

If Gus won't fight Davis (he won't), make the Cormier/Davis fight. Don't eliminate both contenders (Gus and Cormier) by having them fight each other.

Gus can fight Mousasi, Rashad, Hendo, etc.

Cormier or even Machida.

I don't think anyone else can compete with Gus at that weight.

cormier davis would be a good fight, im not huge on either fighter so if one of these guys gets eliminated as a contender and the other gets a huge boost toward a title fight. if davis won that fight i couldnt complain about him being a title contender

Not really. Nelson puts on entertaining fights for the most part. Certainly more often than Dominick Cruz. Im a fan of Barao, and Aldo is very entertaining as well. There's good fights to be found in the lower weight classes. Dodson is another entertaining fighter. There are quite a few of them down there. Either extreme position Nelson/small guys is off base imo.
