The fans exiting the arena were something to behold. Leaf fans hooping and hollering, chanting and high fiving strangers. So many of them were going bananas, they were honking their horns for crying out loud. You'd think they just won the Stanley Cup. I've never seen anything like it.

Thanks for ****ing nothing Oilers. Thanks for ****ing nothing.

On July 31, 1987, a devastating tornado (ranked F4 on the Fujita scale) hit the city and killed 27 people. The storm hit the areas of Beaumont, Mill Woods, Bannerman, Fraser, and Evergreen. The day became known as "Black Friday." Then-mayor Laurence Decore cited the community's response to the tornado as evidence that Edmonton was a "city of champions," which later became the city's official slogan.

MacT has been awfully quiet. I don't mean trade wise, I mean talking to the fans and media about WTF is wrong with the team.

You guys will want to read this btw.

In Scandinavia we can get feed through a service called Viaplay. It's basically the regular stuff except that it stays on-site during commercials. This basically lets me (and others using the same service) listen in on what the broadcast teams are talking about when off air. I watched the Sportsnet Oilers feed.

At one point when they were off air they started talking about Perron being sick. This is what they said: (I'm paraphrasing here so it's not exact word for word)

"He's sick. Illness and fatigue, illness and fatigue. He is sick of playing for this team probably."

Ouch. Not as bad as when they completely trashed Reimer in our last game against you guys while off air, but still not pretty.

Now it's off air mind you, but it is still interesting. You hear a lot of stuff they are too polished to say when on air.

Edit: I didn't hear them say Perron, they referred to him as "he" all the time. Didn't know who they were talking about and which team until I saw one of you guys write that Perron was out sick.

Keith Acton did that in Toronto, so I would assume him. He was terrible.

Could you imagine how bad that club would be that year without Penner playing out of his head and having an outlier year?

I really, really want this Viaplay thing.

And hopefully Perron is. Despite that I love his play and what he brings, if a player that we just brought in from a real hockey team just exploded after half a year, and let everyone know. That might be a shake that Katz needs to clean house.

Uh, it's B and it's been B for a long time. Entitled, gutless vets (Hemsky, Smyth, Horcorff) have given way to a new crop of entitled, gutless young stars (Eberle, Hall, RNH, Schultz) led by their pal Sam Gagner that do whatever they want without repercussions. When are those guys ever going to get benched? And of course Yak and other skill guys on the team watch them not buy in so they figure they dont have to buy in either.

They've burned through three coaches in four years and I don't think Eakins is going to be here much longer unless a massive turnaround happens.

As I said earlier in the thread you have to put Hemsky, Gordon, Perron out against the top lines, especially the highly skilled ones, and put the younger ballerinas out against lesser competition. And maybe when they see some success and some composure and how to keep skill guys at bay a bit then maybe they will get it eventually and in time these "young stars" can match up with top lines again.

I personally would trade Eberle for the best package you can get. That would send a real message to the "young stars".

Exactly this.

Team plays like **** under Quinn - fire the coach!
Team plays like **** under Renney - fire the coach!
Team plays like **** under Krueger - fire the coach!
Team plays like **** under Eakins - fire the coach!

There's a common denominator here and it's NOT the coach.

I can't believe I'm saying this but we should be taking a good, long, hard look at these players that we're wanting to lead us to the promised land because so far all that skill hasn't meant ****.

Definitely some truth to this, even though the broadcast crew were just joking.

He loved it in St. Louis and was devastated when he was traded here, don't let his (required) politically correct post-trade interviews cloud your judgement. He wasn't happy to be traded from St. Louis and, with the way things are going again, I doubt he's pleased with where he ended up.

Puck luck does play a big role. EDM fans should know this, you were part of the biggest example in the history on the NHL. Remember missed empty netter and Hemsky scores
Also just look at the Leaf-Canes game. Leafs should have won that no question and puck luck stole it. But in the game tonight puck luck may have given the Oil 2 goals.

Krueger said a lot of boneheaded things in his post game interviews too.
