San Jose is 10-1-1, no reason to trade away Couture

Sharks won't like this.. Thornton and couture is a lethal 1-2 punch and couture is most likely their future 1c. Value might be there but the deal only makes sense for the leafs.

Why? SJS fans are going to hate it.....and i do to. We as Leaf fans are finally seeing an uptick, why deal 4 pieces (3 young ones) to get 1...albeit good 1, but i just don't get the mentallity.

Pavelski would be more realistic to target.

How about "None of our 4 top centers are available and you should stop making proposals regardless of how fair you think they are"?

Can I interest you in a slightly used James Sheppard or Adam Burish? Those would be realistic targets.

In terms of seeing this trade from an objective standpoint, the value is there. Though, I'd take Lupul out, and swap him in with another top-6 player (I'm not entirely sold on his PPG stats, sounds very unsustainable to me).

However, because Couture is worth more to us (not solely in terms of trade value) than what we'd likely get in a trade, we wouldn't be able to trade him.

And whoever said Pavelski is a realistic target is dead wrong. He's not going anywhere either.

he's sustained it for around 100 games with the Leafs now dating back to the 2010-2011 season when he started playing with Kessel.

He likely won't put up 80 points because he's injured 20 games every year but the games he does play I think he's a good bet to put up PPG and probably gets 65 points per year.

But maybe that's your way to telling us you'd rather have Jvr?

Couture simply isn't available, end of story.

Want Havlat? We can discuss that, but no point even discussing Couture, Thornton, Pavelski, Burns, Hertl.

JVR isn't available.

This trade is bad for both teams. And both teams lead their respective divisions. No need for trades for the sake of making trades.

One of those trades that, despite being fair value, both teams will hate.

Yup pretty much this.

If leafs can trade bozak for a top 6 winger then it doesn't seem too bad though. But Lupul will most likely retire a leaf (or so I hope)

No way. Couture is way too important to us. No way we'd trade him unless we're getting an even better player back (ie. Couture+ for Stamkos or something crazy like that)

No way San Jose trades away a core peice when they're this close to winning a Stanley cup.

no they won't trade a core player , but i keep hearing every year how clase they are to the title and when the playoffs starts it ends quickly for them..i have a feeling they will be done once again after the first round or second...

Didn't the Leafs essentially trade away the pick that turned into Couture for Toskala?

Why are there always some leaf fans that love making these 'strip the whole team apart and give up our most valuable assets for a first line centre' proposals. All of them make the team worse in the short and long term. You guys are ridiculous.

Like a PPG winger that is in his prime, a future potential star defenseman, AND a first rounder and another pick for a great two way top line centre? I'd rather keep our pieces. Especially since Kadri could be better than Couture.

He IS there 1c at the moment. Couture and Marleau make up the top line, with Jumbo now essentially being the 2c. JT is still the better player, but Couture basically the top-line center now.

This really doesn't make sense. Couture is not going anywhere. Nor is Pavs. Making an offer on our top 9 as it stands right now, I would say are all off limits.

Yup, two conference finals appearances in the last four years sure is a quick end... Kinda like the only other teams that can say that are the Kings, Bruins, and Blackhawks. You know the last three Stanley Cup winners. Yup that's some real bad company.

Wrong. Couture was picked 9th overall in the 2007 draft. The pick Toronto traded was 13th overall which was traded by San Jose to St Louis who switched picks to drafted Lars Eller.
