We need some guys like Brodziak, Glencross, Chimera and Greene.

Not picking up the right guys is a problem, but letting the right guys go for the wrong guys is even worse.

One other note on the Nash trade: at the time, it was viewed as a really lopsided one in favour of NYR and probably cost Howson his job.

Back to the Oil: I would be surprised to see a panic move at this point.

Hell, look at the Maple Leafs. We both started the rebuild in 2010 and have done significantly better at drafting then the leafs.

Hall, RNH, Yakupov, Nurse, Klefbom, > Rielly, Gauthier, Biggs, Percy

The leafs managed to rebuild by acquiring Lupul, Phaneuf, Franson, Bernier and Jake Gardiner without giving up anything significant.
And we had an opportunity to hire the man who pulled those deals for T.O. Instead we hired Lowe's buddy.

And now the man that did the Leafs rebuild is in Calgary helping them with theirs.

Good show, Old Boys Club. Good show.

Stauffer said Nikitin could be had on the show yesterday.

I'd definitely try to obtain him. Big, can skate, and move the puck.

Ya, he's been a healthy scratch for Columbus, he's a buy low target I've wanted all season.

I don't see any of hte kids being moved.

Hall and RNH are untouchable for obvious reasons...they are special talents.
Eberle is not as gifted but he's playing 21 minutes a night. Easily Eakins favorite player thus far.
You don't trade Yakupov when he's struggling...would be idiotic.

Is he a clear cut top-4 D-man though? Someone who can play tough minutes?

I don't mind Nikitin, but we need someone who can definitely play tough minutes on the backend. Being a LHD to pair with Petry would be a plus.

If he is capable of pushing J Schultz out of the top four I'd be ok with it.

Based on what I've seen, Nikitin at worst is a better, less nasty version of Smid.

Nikitin is a guy you can plug with Schultz IMO

Yep. Burke's a genius, and MacT must be idiot because our place in the standings hasn't changed from 12/13.

I get the frustration, but give your head a shake.

12/13 or 07/08? But I get it, just be patient, the wins will come right? Because.... law of averages?

If Nikitin could be had for cheap then I hope the Oilers do that deal. He's not a top pairing defenceman but he's an upgrade for our top 4. Then try and do the Smid+ for Colburn. Then trade N.Schultz for a draft pick.

Colburn - Petry
Nikitin - Belov
Ference - J.Schultz
Fedun

As a fan I would love to see a trade and I still think they need a top defence man and someone to push Dubnyk for his job.

But this team is statistically better than last year, they are out shooting teams and winning face-offs, two key problems to last year.

The issues now are the special teams and goaltending… two things Edmonton was good at last year..

Its a weird thing happening here… This team IS better, the standings just are not showing it…

Also we have had some pretty unfortunate injury luck lately too… I know it sounds like I am making excuses but I think Edmonton WILL be a lot higher in the standings come the end of the year compared to last year. They might of dug them selves too deep of a hole to make the playoffs but they ARE improving.

Philli wouldn't do that deal, they are looking for puck moving defence man, not defensive D men..

I would like Colbourn on our team and I wonder what the team would be like today if they found a way to make that trade on the draft floor..

If Columbus is willing to sell low on Nikitin it should be a no brainer for MacT. He just got rid of Grebeshkov and Potter.

What about a Nick Schultz+ for Nikitin?

As weird as this is going to sound, I think that's actually a positive, to an extent, for this team. Last year the PP was the major reason the Oilers created any offense, 5 on 5 they were beyond dreadful, this year they are able to score without a functional PP, so if that gets going, look out.

I don't get why Emelin was giving 4 years 4.1mil today.

That's the point. So a month into his first season as GM, and he's a moron because we're in the same spot we've been in for 6 years? No problems at all with that statement.

Like I said, I get the frustration, we're all feeling it. But lets not get silly and start blaming every Oiler employee and their goldfish.

Lol what? Apparently the Habs are doing all they can to make Subban as expensive as possible.

I like Emelin, but I mean, this is like giving J. Schultz $5.75 for 5 years right now, which would be stupid. Yikes.

I'd go after Bogosian/Byfuglien..

I'd also be calling the Rangers about someone on their back end..

When we signed Belov I heard comparisons to Emelin, so I wondered into the MTL forum and asked about Emelin. The majority of their fans love this guy and had nothing but good things to say.

I'm not sure off the top of my head what he is hurt with right now though.

I'm not necessarily blaming MacT.

Moreso Lowe for the short sighted search for the next GM.

Lowe is actually the reason why this club has had so many problems... His knowledge about winning is just too much for this club to handle.

Why did Edmonton just recall Lander? Is Perron hurt bad?
