In regards to his knee, I'm not overly concerned about it. Sure it will take some time for him to get back to 100% but it's 2013 and knee surgeries aren't what they used to be.

My only concern is whether he is worth this type of contract.

Put me in the 'on the fence' category right now about this one...

I predict Markov will get 5.75M/3yrs. You heard it here first. Book it!

Fudge I really hope Subban doesn't cost anything over 8M. Still need to re-sign Eller and find a RW to replace Gio unless he takes a huge discount?

Mid November - Early December. He's practicing with a no-contact jersey right now.

Emelin IS good offensively, people. He's put up a decent amount of points, despite seeing NO power play time. MT playing Cube instead of him that 2nd wave is an absolute disgrace, imho.

I'm not sure you understand the reasons as to why the cap had to go down this year...

His contract doesn't kick in until next season. Emelin was going to be a UFA

Why are people surprised? Gorges makes 4 million per year and apart from doing snow angels on the ice Emelin is better at pretty much everything.

It's a contract extension.

Because being over dramatic is cool. Check the O'Byrne traded thread for proof

Gorges generally has better positioning. Emelin moves the puck better.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gorges get's dealt tbh.

I realize that Emelin making less than 4M annually is more 'aesthetically pleasing'...but in the end, there's not much difference between say, 3.5M and 4.1M

If Emelin is a free agent this summer, there would be a number of teams more than willing to offer him 4M+ annually

What was the rush in getting Emelin signed? Looks like resigning (in a way rewarding) players is not Bergevin's strong suit. If Emelin plays to his potential this could be solid but it's a big if since he has only 100+ games of NHL experience.

People judge this deal like it is only 1 year at 4,1mil. Sure it's a lot for now, but it could very well be a bargain as soon as year 2 of the deal.

Also in 2-3 years with the cap going up, 4,1mil will be minimal

I guess that's a bit too much $, but Emelin is what we need.

Hope he can come back full healthy.

People are surprised because on the whole, he has only played a little over a 100 games and just had a major injury. It probably will work out, it's still a pretty big gamble.

Because Gorges had over 400 NHL games, we already knew for sure what he could bring to this team

I love Emelin he's good! but we don't know much about him, and we don't know how he's going to handle a 82 game season. It's just a risky contract

Tinordi-Beaulieu will have their bridge contracts. When they will be ready for Payday, Markov and Gorges will be off the books.

Bouillon is there to be a stabilizing element on the bottom-2 in the meanwhile.

Glad to hear Emelin is locked up for 4 years, one less un-signed D for MB to worry about now and the D sure could use his physical presence. Hopefully Subban's 8 year deal is next up.

I was thinking 4m over 4 years would be a great deal, so close enough. Love how Bergevin didn't waste anytime. Smart moves.

Expected something like 7m/2 years, but ok with it. We need him so much.

I don't disagree and overall I'm happy that Emelin signed for 4 years. I guess I'm just surprised by the timing + numbers. Confident move from MB that's for sure.
