Steve Downie was just traded for Max Talbot - why in the hell can we never pull those off. Downie is what we need here.

Sometimes teams won't trade players to teams in the same conference.

While other teams make a trade, I get jealous since Mac T hasn't made any "bold" moves.

We don't have a Max Talbot. We have a better, more expensive Gordon, and I can't see how you trade him for UFA Downie.

A healthy Oilers lineup doesn't look too bad.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Perron - Arcobello - Gagner
Joensuu - Gordon - Hemsky
Smyth/Jones - Acton - Yakupov/Gazdic

Petry - Smid
Ference - N. Schultz
J. Schultz - Belov

Dubnyk
Labarbera/Bachman.

A better 1b goaltender would be nice.
Giving less minutes to kids like Yakupov and J. Schultz is necessary.

His bold ''move'' will be when he picks Reinhart or Ekblad at the draft.

It's saying something when it doesn't look too bad on paper but on the ice it sucks terribly.

Like G-Schnieder and G-Bernier and C-Bolland before him, He plays in the Western Conference and is in our division. Or was,

We haven't seen that lineup on the ice this year.

Could we not have worked out a deal around Hemsky + for Downie?

Any fan of this team that has been a fan for many, many years can easily tell that ,that lineup sucks and that injuries or not, that lineup will never be good.

Our defence needs a major overhaul.

Downie is an impending UFA and probably asking for much more than he's worth.

I wouldn't be too choked up about it.

Would have been nice to get Downie.

There must be something more going on here. They could have got a way better return for Downie even if he is a UFA.

I bet MacT does too, especially when 3 players who would fit this team well get traded.

Our defence needs a major overhaul.
And your answer, as usual, is to tank for another high draft pick.

Just like in 2010, 2011, and 2012.

Tank talk is down right embarrassing and anyone cheering for another high draft pick should feel bad.

They're hoping they can resign him for less than the $3.975 that Simmonds is getting and jettison Simmonds. To us obviously.

Downie will get them more then Talbot at the trade deadline if they cannot.

Much bigger problems

1)We have easily the top 5 worst goalie tandem

2)Defense needs a overhaul

3)Center depth is terrible

4)Ryan Smyth refusal to retire

5)Bottom 6 forwards suck

6)Jordan Eberle, Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent Hopkins, Nail Yakupov, not the right core to win cups

7)Major lack of grit in the top 6

The Oilers are years away from being a contender.

I disagree with where he's slotted some players, but that's a decent lineup. Not a world beater, but better than a lot of other teams and lot better than what we've seen so far.

Defence needs maybe one top four guy to push a few others down.

The Oilers have plenty of top 4 defencemen, why would they need more?

I thought that it would be more obvious that the Oilers are badly in need of a number 1 defenseman.

What about making a play for Ott? The rumblings are that he will be making his way out of Buffalo soon...
