Trade with Buffalo

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Peter...rget/161/55283

Quote:
Let's step into the realm of speculation now. The Jets are struggling, they don't have an indentity nor do they have an elite calibre forward and the goaltending continues to be suspect. Where the Jets looking at Vanek, Miller or something else?

What we don't know was if the Jets scouts had been following the Sabres and looking at more than just one game. If the Sabres had spoken to the Jets about Vanek and they were prepared to eat the current 1.5 Million in Vanek's salary as they have for the Islanders what would the Jets have to do to fit him in?

The Jets would have to absorb 4.25 in cap space and 4.9 in salary with just only 1 million in available cap space. Who do they move to fit Vanek and why bring a goaltending pro? Some one would have to be moved but who? I just don't think that's who they were looking at but with a goaltending coach/scout there logic dictates it was Miller.
Any chance we get Miller? I mean, this would at least push Pav's. Not sure how this would all work out with the cap. Perhaps, Buffalo would be willing to absorb some of Millers contract?

Just me but I think a trade for Miller would probably include Pav shuffling off to Buffalo. Plus Miller nixed Edmonton, I'm fairly sure Winnipeg isn't high on his list either.

I'd think Buffalo would just move ahead with Enroth as their #1, he's better then Pav's right now anyhow. I'm sure Buffalo would be more interested in picks.

IMHO, Winnipeg as an organization is leaps and bounds ahead of Edmonton.

Miller has stated he doesn't want to play in Canada.

Stafford is still an option I suppose, although his value is low.

I'm not sure there is anything I would want from Buffalo, except for their 2015 First Round Pick.

True, but Winnipeg does boast a core that is predominantly made up of Americans which may sway his opinion.

Agreed. There is nothing on that roster (that they would want to move), that I would want.

Unless they want to send us Stafford for like a 6th round pick.

Not much salary to balance out...even if Miller walks on us we at least clear out Pavelec's salary and bring in someone cheap in net. If he doesn't, our defense has a goalie who has been at an all world level to count on. This is one situation where the UFA walking on us isn't a big deal cause its a goalie.

My guess would be the sticking point is "add Burmistrov or no deal" and Chevy doesn't want to make that panic move.

Yes, not sure what we would be willing to give up for Stafford. Cormier and a 4th?

Not any near the rights to Burmi, IMO.

Miller is not coming here.
1) Winnipeg is almost guaranteed to be on his no trade list.
2) He's a pending UFA, considering what Buffalo got for Vanek there's no way we are giving up anything of substance. It won't happen
3) Jets management are comfortable with Pavelic
4) No cap space for his over $6MM contract.

1) He can wave his no trade clause
2) good.
3) why are they at the buffalo games, with our goalie scout?
4) buffalo would have to eat it.

I agree that it's all speculation. But the scouts were there.

Ofcourse he can. and Sydney Crosby could demand a trade to Winnipeg tommorrow. Neither of them are gonna happen. Miller has ZERO incentive to wave his trade clause to come to Winnipeg.

Also consider Darcy Regier is famous for being extremely stiff on his demands:

http://www.nhltradetracker.com/user/...ffalo_Sabres/1

Gaustad + 4th for Nashvilles 1st
Pominville + 4th for MNs 1st, 2nd, and two great prospects
Vanek for Moulson 1st and 2nd

I can't believe the prices he's getting.

NEVER... After we kicked his butt and he had to settle for a silver medal in Vancouver, the guy has a serious hate on for Canada. I guess he doesn't like the chant everytime he plays a game up here.

Miller has stated he will never play for a team in Canada.

Buffalo is after draft picks and prospects and so are we. We are not good trading partners as they want to sell their expiring UFA product for futures.

Who was Buffalo playing when our three scouts were in attendance. Hmmmmm?

Well he may not have much choice as to where he plays. Most of the contenders in the states have their goaltending locked up long term.

The only teams I see are:

The Ducks although the seem to be pretty happy with Fasth.

St. Louis makes the most sense. But the organization has a budget and may elect to go with Allen who looks to be ready for prime time.

Colorado depending on how Varlemov's case goes.
Maybe the Islanders but can they afford him.

The fact is that Millet doesn't have a lot of options in the US unless he wants to go to a bottom feeder like Florida. The Jets have a very strong contingent of Americans on the team which may make him feel comfortable in Winnipeg.

The "Miller has stated he will never play in Canada" meme is rampant. Does anyone have a link to a vetted article stating this?

I think it's highly unlikely we acquire Miller due to his salary and our cap, and the fact that we would have nearly 10M tied up in goaltending, but considering he's a UFA at seasons end he may waive his NTC to come to a Canadian team if he feels the playing situation might be more palatable than in Buffalo where things have soured.

If no American team is kicking his tires, 3/4 of a season in Canada may seem preferable to him. His family wouldn't have to move here and he'd be in the States most of the season anyhow.

Not sure how reliable but it states....

"Miller is in a tough spot. Plenty of goaltenders are available right now, and if he sticks to his no-Canada policy, two of the teams most eager for help in the crease -- Calgary and Edmonton -- are eliminated".

Maybe Pavs wants out of the Peg?

On the one hand I doubt that Pavs is going anywhere. I don't think management wants to move him. However, for the right price no one is untouchable. Perhaps Pavs is looking to get out of the Peg? During a recent post game interview, he showed himself to be an extremely frustrated goaltender.

Ducks are not an option, they have 3-4 NHL calibre goalies. If anything they'll be unloading one of Fasth or Hiller.
