It's called available Cap space.

Gomez will draw interest from pretty much every team in the NHL looking for a 2nd line center but I think he heads out to the western Conf.

I think he's on pace for something like 10-15 goals which will certainly hurt him as nobody on NJ seems to be able to finish.

I'd rather have Briere over Gomez and I hope Scott goes westward.

Jagr is signed through the 08-09 season.

Of the primary guys, only Shanny and Straka are UFA at the end of this season. Ozo and Weekes come off the books.

At the end of of the 07-08 season, Kasparaitis, Malik, Rozsival and A Ward contracts are up.

I just don't see either Drury or Gomez signing with the Rangers because of Sather. In my opinion he's anti-American hockey wise and would rather sign a Canadian or Euro.

That puts the Rangers in a SWEET position over all cap wise.

Well Lou is the opposite of Glen in that he could be considered to much pro-USA.

And I really didn't get your sarcasm.

He drafted Sanguintetti, Montoya and Jessiman. He traded for Hall. He signed Cullen. Callahan, Dubinsky, Roche, Sauer, Ryan and Moore are all American.

4 of our last 5 top draft picks have been Americans, and overall alot have been Americans or out of the American college system. Couple that with his former love affair with Tom Poti and Im not really sure what you are judging this on.

Edit: beat me to it SBOB

I new Sanguintetti, Montoya and Jessiman were, didn't realize about the rest. Maybe it's just me but in my opinion he would have never treated Mess the way he did Leetch and during his time as GM, I never remember any prominent US players on the Rangers. And he probably figures that he’ll retire before all those U.S. kids make the team.

As long as the Rangers continue to pay their players in U.S. funds,I'm sure they will come Some of them might prefer to get paid in Euros with a $1.31-$1.32 exchange rate to $1 U.S. dollar

The Rangers have less than $20 million committed for next season. The cap will increase to $46-$47.5 million

Cmon BD, you're more level headed than this.

Maybe it's just the Leetch situation that bothers me. Although I'm not a Ranger fan, I was always a big fan of Brian's and I guess I just never liked the guy from his days with the Oilers.

I don't think Gomez is going to leave Jersey.

Drury is definitely a nice alternative, though. Rangers need someone to fill the black hole known as "2nd Line Center."

Damn thats true... I would speculate that he loves Mass players over MI/MN guys, but that would go against his obvious love for Falardeau.

Its funny every time I type that name, I worry. Its like if I type it three times, True Blue is going to hop out of a mirror and hit me with a hockey stick...

Jr., Think about it for a minute, since Sather took over you can count on one hand the U.S. players he brought in. And although "Singingtheblues" pointed out to me all the recent U.S. players drafted, I bet that probably has to do more with Sather being more of a figure head and Gordie Clark becoming director of scouting. I still think he's has some bias against US. players. Call it the Candian inferiority complex.
