How did he go undrafted? I did not even think about that when he was in camp, but I read before the draft he was touted as a top 50 pick by some and a consensus top 100.

Are there any notable holes in his game? Skating mainly, as that is usually the one that puts everyone off.

He ended up with two assists on the night, but he wasn't really noticeable.

In ex-prospect news, Maroon looked pretty good last night in Ottawa. I had always found myself pulling for him.

Morin with an assist & Laughton with a goal tonight.

Phantoms win 3-1 over Binghamton. Alderson, Flanagan, & Akeson with the goals. Noebels (2), Flanagan, Mangene, Newbury, & VandeVelde with the assists.

Vasiliev is really becoming pretty interesting in my mind... he is playing as the number 5 D man for Spartak on a regular basis now getting 15 mins a game in the KHL, and some games plays #4.

I hate +/-... but he has the joint best on the defence for them. He only has 1 point in 16 games... but tbh the whole Spartak team is not putting up points, and he in not projected to ever play a role where points are a part of his game.

Guys definitely ahead of him on D:

Deron Quint
Denis Bodrov
Andrei Sergeyev (Played in WJC a few years ago)

Considering Quint proved he was a pretty decent NHL D man, and Bodrov was pretty damn good in the AHL, enough for the Flyers to offer him a contract (which for all intents and purposes he would have signed if not for having a kid he did not want to move to Glenn Falls!)

Just hope Bodrov and Zherdev don't put him off coming over to the US! ;p

He should be on the WJC team if he keeps up the solid play. He played regularly in the evaluation camps, and seemingly many think he will be on the second pairing.

In my mind Andrei Mironov and Pavel Koledov may be the only locks on the defence. (both were there last year, Mironov playing well in KHL.) But after them Vasiliev may be next on the list.

But I don't follow anything but KHL in Russia (and even then not regularly, just the odd game and stat check every now and then), so there could be some kids lighting up the MHL that I have no clue on.

Vasiliev is also one of only 6 D men under 20 playing regularly in the KHL...

Thanks for the update.

Last I heard he was gonna play another two (?) years in the KHL before coming over to NA. I don't remember where I heard that though.

Just saw that Juuso Ikonen went undrafted.

How in hell.

I know he is a 'dwarf' for an nhler (like 5'7-5'8) but from what I saw in the WJC u-18 and SM liiga he has everything else... he does not shy from physicality even though he gets knocked around, competes, determined, great skater, elite hands, vision.

I thought I had just missed him and he went in the 60-100 range, but was checking out SMliiga stats today, saw he was again doing pretty well so clicked on him... saw he went undrafted. The kid probably would have gone 1st round if he was 5'11, him and Lehkonen are pretty much similar talent wise. Ikonen may even be better.

In fact Ikonen, Lehkonen and Teravainen all kind of have similar 'talent' just Ikonen has not got the extra 2-3 inches in height.

Definitely thought someone had taken a flyer on him, Conacher, St. Louis, Hudler, Fleury and Gionta have all shown that height is not the be all and end all if you have talent.

On the topic of former prospects, Carter Hutton, who was singed to an Amateur Tryout as a free agent back when there were a bunch of goalie injuries in 09-10, is playing in the NHL for Nashville at the moment. He also played a game for Chicago last season and was a backup on the bench for a few.

Stolarz got yanked earlier in the 2nd today after he gave up 3 goals on 11 shots.

The game is still going on but getting close to being over. His replacement isn't fairing too well neither giving up 4 goals on 16 shots currently.

I noticed Bill Meltzer talking to a fan on Twitter about Hagg and how he has struggled .The fan brought up that he doesn't get involved offensively and has some trouble in his own zone. Meltzer agreed based on the games he saw as well. Hopefully he can turn it around.

I usually agree with pretty much everything Bill says. Not saying I completely disagree, (he had been up and down and sometimes seems he does not want to jump into the rush) but I would not say he has struggled really.

But watching about 5-6 of the MODO games this year I only saw Hägg have one bad game.

Maybe just the games I have watched were a good selection. He also has far more competition for ice time recently as Salmela came back (before being traded) and Cumiskey is there now, so he is playing on average with worse players over the last 5 or so games.

And he does have the fourth most points of any d man under 20 in the league... and the 3rd most on his team after Reghr and Cumisky.

He also has the second most shots of any of MODO's D man.

And there are only 3 players in the entire SHL who are 95 born playing regularly, and de la Rose as a forward only has one more point than him.

If you are looking at his draft year only two players have more that 6 points, and he is the top scoring D man.

I think he is doing pretty ok for his age in a very tough league.

He did get 'sent down' to the J20 team for one game last week, but MODO had a 5 day break, and he was recalled to play the last two games, and played as the #5 (out of 7).

He almost scored vs Luleå this week jumping into the rush, went round a guy then just put it wide.

Morin made the QMJHL team for the Super Series against Russia.

Good chance Laughton makes the OHL team as well but nothing official yet for that.

Phantoms beat Springfield 2-1. Goals by Newbury & VandeVelde. Assists by Manning, Konan, & Alt. Heeter stopped 27.

Laughton did make the OHL team for the Subway Super Series against Russia.

He blew a tire backchecking ( a couple times this game) and left kosalek in a vulnearable position and the forward had a 1 on 1 with the goalie and roofed it.

I like Morin and It is clear as day that he has first pairing offense potential. But he is not as sound on D as I thought he would be and he really struggles with smaller shiftier players ( and the q has about 100 of those types).

I thought the book out on him was Great Defender, physical , but not much offense.

What i am seeing is Great Passer, Howitzer shot, Not very physical and not great in his own zone. But i will continue to emphasize what a great passer he is out of hiz own zone. That will be huge for us.
