What can be said for Sami Lepisto?

Sami Lepisto is an interesting name that came up during the WJC's (this is my 2nd day online sine then I just got a new computer so sorry if im beating the drum). What can be said for him? Best d-man in the WJC's, named to the first all star team...Is this a mediocre prospect that just caught lightning in the bottle over the holidays, or is this a player whose stock rose with the WJC, or was he already a bonafied first round draft for this upcoming draft?

Do a search, but if you're too lazy here is it what you'll find on nutshell:
- solid season with Jokerit this far, great WJCs, came pretty much out of nowhere
- offenceman, sees the ice well, rushes the puck, great passing and one timer, likes to hit and plays pretty good defence
- good skater, somewhat small (6-0)
- turns 20 next October, missed last draft due to lacking paperwork
- needs more strength, experience, both should come
-> easy to project, safe pick who will run the PP and play solid all around game. Upside is a question mark. Should go in second half of first round, early second, maybe even top ten if a team has really fallen in love with him.

interesting. i know i never heard his name before the WJC's. I wouldn't mind having another pp runner in Philly, along with a good all around game. Could be be a PK specialist as well like a Teppo Numminen?

Not really a PK specialist, no, his defensive game isn't that good. He was great in the WJC, but he clearly still lacks power to battle against bigger forwards.

His style to play defense reminds me a lot of certain mr. Niinimaa: hassling around the opponent, using his stick more than his body, making questionable decisions (but usually the right ones) and somehow coming out of impossible looking situations with the puck.

I wouldn't call him a mediocre prospect, but if people expect him to be as good as his WJC showing was (like the CSB seems to), they'll be disappointed. He has the upside of an offensive top-4 defender, but there's still a lot lacking in his game, mostly physically. His skating isn't as good as it should be for defenseman his size and he doesn't hit half as much (or hard) in regular SM-liiga games as he did in the WJC.

For the Flyers, I'll take another Janne Niinimaa. Obviously, Lepisto is not going to be as good or as heralded as Pitkanen, but if you were an NHL GM or head scout, where do YOU pick Sami Lepisto? The Flyers, despite needing to replenish their forward department, could use another good defenseman. Right now, they have a 2nd round pick in the middle of the first round.

I was impressed by him. I hope he falls to the Pens in the early 2nd, and they have the presence of mind to take him. With all of our 6'4" blueline prospects, I think we can take a flyer on a smaller kid.

There was some talk of this at the prospect board before, but varying info on Lepistö's height continues. Latest issue of Jääkiekkolehti listed him as 186 cm(!), in their review of team Finland. However, in the very next page there's a picture of Lepistö and Filppula standing side-by-side (presumably during a post game award ceremony) and they look to be exactly the same height. Filppula is listed as 182 cm, which Lepistö has also been listed as. That figure seemed closer to the truth, IMO.
