I blame witches.

The team is cursed.

What else can it be at this point.

Simon Gagne went to the high Witch and as she loves him (for having the purest shot in hockey) she cast a curse on the Flyers.

The curse is only going to be lifted when he is re-hired in some capacity.

So probably 2 years when he is given a job as the assistant pure shooting coach for the 3rd line (with the phantoms). I would say another job, but by then there will be no spaces what with rehiring everyone else who ever played here.

Talbot is a glue guy....kind of like Cleary is described. They are important to team chemistry. Roy is no dope. Tonight we saw how being a loose canon the way Downie is (albeit less so than when he first entered the league) has its drawbacks. Having your face smashed in by a guy you should not be fighting was not a tactically smart move.

Moreover, Downie had no business with that fight....shows you how being a loose canon can come back to bite you. One thing for sure..Talbot was not stupid like that. Probably why Roy made the trade...didn't feel like dealing with the hassle of trying to rein him in like Tocchet said is occasionally needed.
Talbot would have done the same exact thing, and has in the past. Same goes for Lappy. He fought 3 times in a game to try to get his teammates into it. That's all Downie wanted to do.

Maybe so but he still chose the wrong hombre b/c he wasn't thinking straight. Talbot is more tactical as evidenced by that stunt he pulled on the Flyers that one year in the playoffs that really paid dividends...

Except if it were talbot who fought volpatti you'd all be saying "look at this glue guy, fighting a guy way out of his class. What a team guy"

Except no, I'd say wow Talbot why the **** are you fighting down 7-0. Take your loss and move on. Don't act like poor sports which is exactly the way the flyers came off.

No I would be saying he's going to be turned into glue. Kind of like McGinn when he picked a stupid fight that set him back.

The guy sticks up for a teammate and you just have to find the negative in that. How about all this stupid crap trying to G his first freakin goal. Passing back through 2 defensemen when you have an open shot at the net. Thats the sheet you should be beaching about.

How about beaching about Streit playing like a piece of crap.
Or how Gus looked like crap.
Or how Read looked like crap.

But lets beach about the guy sticking up for teammate....WTF

So I'm guessing 4-6 weeks with a broken orbital bone. Hopefully its not that bad, or any worse than that. It's a scary situation.

In my opinion CG is the leader of this team. The team has no passion and no life in them whatsoever. It is his responsibility to light that fire. Right now I say G is the fail and needs to get his sheet together and act like a leader.

Avs fan here. I loved having Downie on the Avs, I hope he's ok. The guy would go to war for his team. Unfortunately sometimes when he'd be better off not doing so.

That is my point..you have to pick your spots. It's cool and all sticking up for your teammates and you want to show like you care but going half cocked can cause more harm than good especially if you get yourself hurt or embarrassed in a fight. It works the opposite way. Doesn't help that you are getting killed on the scoreboard already either...

Likely an extended absence?....

Frank Seravalli ‏@DNFlyers 2h
Downie must have been in bad shape. Security cleared off entire area for him to be wheeled out.

Because nobody knows. Vinny lost some teeth and will be re-evaluated. As soon as anything is known, it will be posted here. Right now, all we know is he's not playing tomorrow.

The Downie fight was the only ounce of care I saw in the team all night. Volpatti slew-footed Read into the boards. It's unfortunate Downie took a beating, but he responded the right way.

Somebody has to find that voodoo doll of Holmgren.....this is just beyond ridiculous anymore. The bad luck is epic...
