You pick Reinhart and our center depth down the middle is set for years to come.

but..

still no number 1 defenseman on this team.

or

You pick Ekblad and we have our number 1 defenseman and we have potentially our top line set of Ekblad-Nurse for the future.

but..

Our center depth sucks and one devastating injury to RNH and we're toast.

pick your poison!

The same is true for pretty much any team in the league. I don't think our center depth is nearly as bad as everyone thinks.

RNH will be a Bonafide number 1 in this league while Gordon has proved he's a bonafide number 3. We have Arcobello, Acton and Lander who can play fourth line center while Gagner isn't the worst number 2 center in the league. Obviously id like to upgrade on Gagner but he's probably a top 15 second line center.

I agree with most of what you said. But RNH>Reinhart in terms of passing. While he's by no means a bad skater, his agility and ability to weave through traffic isn't on the level of RNH. This allows RNH to get into position to make more plays than Reinhart. Also, from what I've read, Reinhart's vision and hockey IQ are very high, but RNH's are better, which is another tool that indicates RNH is a better playmaker.

Both Reinhart and Ekblad are exactly what the Oilers need. I'd be happy with either with the way this season is going.

Has anyone seen Nikita Scherbak play? Blades rookie is putting up some good numbers.

I agree, i dont think our center depth is nearly as bad as its made out to be. and the reason nobody wants Gagner is because he isnt that big body #2 center everyone thinks is the key to a cup. well Reinhart isnt that either.

Id take Eckblad if we had the position to choose between the two.
aall of a sudden our D prospects are Ecklbad, Nurse, Klefbom, Marincin and we are looking great in that department.

admittedly i have not seen a ton of either, but what i have seen from Eckblad impresses the hell out of me

For those who have seen Ekblad, do you think he has the skill and hockey IQ to be a #1 or is his dominance simply a result of him being more physically developed than his peers?

Everything I've read/watched on him indicates hockey IQ being a strength of his. Skill is not a question at all. The kids going to be a monster.. 6'3 220 at 17.

He's a man-child.

At 16 years old, he could grow a play-off beard that rivalled most NHLers haha.

Ekblad.

Having Nurse, Ekblad and Klefbom increases our chances to finally own a #1 D exponentially.

Reinhart is a good centre, but I can't see having 2 elite centres and 3 elite wingers sustainable. I think we go organizational needs vs BPA this draft.

I'm 100% for Ekblad. Our center depth isn't actually a nightmare. The only thing we are lacking down the middle is size. Reinhart doesn't give us that. Reinhart would likely be an improvement over Gagner yes... but Ekblad would likely be our elite #1 d-man.

To anyone saying that Ekblad/Nurse/Klefbom/Marincin is too much defensive depth, I say that there is no area better to have that depth available!

You would think with all those "bonafide" centers we would be better than we are. Well we arent that good. And we have next to nothing in the system.

Would Ekblad be NHL ready next year? Looking at his height and weight, i think he could make an easy transition. maybe bottom pairing?

NHL ready for sure. 3 years in Junior, and he has the size for it. I also think he'd be 2nd pairing atleast. For us, he'd probably finish his rookie season as our #1

We could blow up the team of anyone under 25 and go for an all prospect team. Sure we may rank but maybe the team would work together.
