3) Ekblad is more like to have a Jones/Doughty rookie impact than a Larsson/Murray type.

I don't know why you want to trade picks and prospects that have top pairing potential for #3 d-men. Ference was the #3 guy on a cup winning team Petry would be a #3 guy on many good teams. We have lots of guys who can play a 2nd pairing role, we dont need that anymore. We need studs back there. I'm not trading Nurse or our potential Ekblad pick for anything less than that.
okay fair enough, i get your point for sure.... totally understandable.... my point is: are you willing to wait 3-4 years for nurse or ekblad to become a 1st pairing guy? (if they ever get there) i'm not, i guess that is the difference

I guess that's where we disagree. St. Louis was bad for a long time. I don't think any of their fans regret waiting on Pietro

yeah this is where we disagree.... if we have to wait 3 years, we might as well say goodbye to at least 1 or 2 of hall, eberle, RNH, yakupov, because they won't stick around for 3 more years of losing

in the long, long term (5+ years) it might be a good trade (say losing eberle and hall, but gaining a true #1 dman), but i'm not willing to wait that long, and i'm not willing to take a chance on that player (nurse/klefbom/ekblad) not becoming that true #1 dman

The Yakupov suggestion is so bad it's painful, I don't care if a similar rumor showed up on Dreger's 13 year old cousin's twitter feed or whatever it was. You're trading a first overall player for what is at best a physical, second line forward, and Coburn is a questionable "upgrade" on the defencemen going the other way, he certainly isn't a 1-2 d-men that we need. Writing Yakupov off based on a bad start to the season is a terrible idea.

Also no way Toronto trades away Reimer for a goalie currently playing about 10 times worse (an injured goalie, no less) who makes more money. No, Gagner and Kulemin being in the "deal" doesn't make it more likely to happen.

Could you do something in the offseason like:
J.Schultz + 2nd in 2015 for Byfuglien
Gagner and Petry for Couturier, Coburn and Rinaldo
Sign Mikhail Grabovski, Dustin Penner, Daniel Carcillo, Mark Stuart, Tom Gilbert
Re-Sign Ales Hemsky, Anton Belov
Either stick with Dubnyk or go with someone else
Martin Marincin and Anton Slepyshev to WSH for Tom Wilson

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Perron-Grabovski-Yakupov
Penner-Couturier-Hemsky
Rinaldo-Gordon-Wilson
Carcillo

Smid-Byfuglien
Coburn-Ference
Stuart-Belov
Gilbert/Klefbom

Dubnyk
LaBarbera

I apologize I was bored.

I am frustrated with this team and bored so thought I would do an instant face change for this team. I realize this video game type dealing but shows how much change we really need.

Eberle, Gagner, Smid and Eager for Kane, Bogosian and Cormier
Yak and N Schultz for Gudbranson
J Schultz and Musil for Myers
Hall for Couturier and Simmonds
Petry and Acton - Brett Connolly

Kane - Nuge - Hemsky
Perron - Couturier - Simmonds
Smyth/Joensuu - Gordon - Connolly
Cormier/Jones - Arcobello - Gazdic

Bogosian - Myers
Ference - Gudbranson
Belov - Grebeskov/Larson

Dubnyk
Bachman

I would make everyone but The Nuge available.

Trade 1

To NYR: Hall, Smid

To EDM: McDonagh, Brassard

Trade 2

To NYI: Eberle, Petry

To EDM: Hamonic, Bouchard

Trade 3:

To PHI: Yakupov, J Schultz

To EDM: Simmonds, Coburn, Laughton

Trade 4:

To TOR: Gagner, one of our goalies (eat salary if Dubie)

To EDM: Reimer

Draft Ekblad, give him and Nurse another year in junior. Future top 4 of McDonagh-Hamonic, Ekblad-Nurse.

Svedberg, Marchand and Hamilton for Hall.

Svedberg is too good for the AHL and Boston has Rask for the next decade or more with Subban years away from being NHL ready.

Svedberg has only lost once this year in regulation:

GP 7 W 4 L 1 OTL 2

Last year, he was 37-8-2 and has done nothing but prove he is NHL ready. He is in Providence because the worst place for him would be sitting on the bench watching Rask play.

Something about Eberle and Marchand together seems to make sense and I don't see Eberle being the guy shipped out of Edmonton. Hamilton is the price you pay for Hall.

Combined this is what the Oilers need at a price that is over the top to make them actually consider it. All three instantly start logging serious minutes in Edmonton as the starter, Marchand takes Hall's spot while Hamilton inserts right into the top pairing after spending two years watching Chara.

Finally, all three are 25, 24 and 20 with great contracts and controlled for the future.

Cheers

The Oilers aren't moving Hall.

He's the only player on the team that has legitimately developed into a dangerous and effective NHL player.

Fair enough and I can understand where you are coming from. Perhaps you could modify my post and counter with something around Eberle, Marchand and Svedberg? (I'd remove Hamilton from the talk as Hall is not in the conversation.)

I don't know what is with all the trade Hall talk on here. Him and Nuge are really the two best blocks we have to build around. You can make huge changes to the team without burning the whole thing to the ground.

Right now I'd like to keep:

Hall- Nuge - XXX
Perron - XXX - Yakupov (no way I'm selling low on him, he's got what it takes to be a high end goal scorer)
XXX - Gordon - XXX
XXX/Gazdic - XXX - XXX

XXX - XXX
XXX - Petry
Ference - XXX

Goaltending:
XXX
XXX

That still leaves a huge amount of potential turnover and the team can really be re-shaped drastically. I'd also make sure to hold onto Klefbom and Nurse till we really know what we have in them. I'm also o.k. with keeping Belov or J. Schultz in a 3rd pairing role, J. Schultz gets a lot of flack and he deserves it, but he's still young and could be a really useful piece going forward with the right tutelage.

Yeah, speaking to the Bruins board it's clear they didn't like the offer for Hall either but for some reason (me included) Bruins fans love Eberle and love that dialogue (minus Hamilton) much better.
