Cowen didn't have a good game tonight. He just was barely a liability (his pinch leading to the first goal IIRC he wasn't anywhere near the puck and completely took himself out of the play). He still gave the puck away a bunch and was slow and hesitant in his own zone.

Borowiecki is better than Cowen.

That pinch is systemic. It's very clear that's the way the coach wants our D to play and that pinch was well covered, it was just a weak goal/good shot by Whitney. You can't criticize Cowen for making that play without calling out the coaching staff as a whole.

Cowen had a strong game today, kept it very simple, won lots of battles along the boards and kept the play alive in the O zone when needed.

I don't mind the Cowen - Karlsson pairing. For one, it's still better than Phillips - Karlsson, and then Cowen's role is clearer when he's paired up with Karlsson. He simplifies his game and worries about his defensive responsibilities.

We played really well during the second period. Ryan was dynamite all game. Karlsson was great. BoroCop raised the physicality level, which was welcome. Greening had some good moments. Smith has been much better of late.

edit: FQL beat me to it, but it confirms I'm right about Cowen

I see a Karlsson thread, and I feel the need to defend him because of the ignorance on the main boards... but I feel like I'm just wasting my time.

It doesn't matter how rational your arguments are when you're arguing with posters that have usernames like LOLKarlsson.

At the end of the day, we still have our ppg offensive dman, and he's got 60+ games to become even better. Every EK thread turns out the same way, but it was at least a little more sane before.

You are indeed wasting your time. Use the time for something more productive like long division or absolutely nothing at all. No sense in debating with neanderthals.

On that note though, half way through this game I leaned over to my buddy and said "Karlsson looks like Karlsson"

Karlsson is coming.

I'll take the win since it counts toward the ROW (Regulation and Overtime Win) column.

Anyway, this game was whatever. Neil is still a massive, selfish liability I wish would just go away forever. Ryan has been excellent as always, Lehner will shine in CLB and the team needs to get off its duff asap. 4 wins in 14 games is pretty scary.
We pace at 70 points right now, and probably need 20-24 more than that for a comfortable playoff spot. If we're still this mediocre in early December Murray needs to wake up and pull a trade or something before we give Anaheim a top ten pick.

Neil is so bad right no I'd almost rather see Kassian.

At least he had a shot on goal and drew a penalty in his 2 minutes or so on ice.

Game counts as an OT loss for Lehner.
Poor guy is 5th in NHL save % but has a record of 0-2-2

Neil had 2 shots.

Kassian didn't draw the penalty, Conacher did.

Neil was on over 10 minutes. Kassian over 2.

Not the biggest fan of Kassian's play but right now he looks at least as good as Neil
mainly because Neil is looking pretty bad.

Kassian was on the ice not knowing what to do on that 3rd goal against. Honestly I want neither Neil or Kassian. If it were up to me I'd waive Kassian and sit Neil most games. We do need a physical checking forward but at this point in his career it's not Neil.

They need to put Zibanejad in the shootout.

First off was a Amazing game,
Defense actually did something in the last 20 allowing only 5 shots

Our own goal killed our momentum

We are always lacking defense, but keep Boro he played well

and well shootouts just suck

I thought we played well today. Unfortunate bounce for Boro but we showed a lot of hustle trying to tie it up. That pesky identity, which seemed like it disappeared, looks like it's coming back.

Sens just have to keep fighting through it. The team might be turning the corner.

Was raking leaves, listening to the game. It's a lot easier to hear them lose, than watch.

Fun game to watch. Team played hard and showed flashes of game-breaking skill and some more prolonged pressure. Cowen looked good with Karlsson. Lets him focus more and not try to do it all himself.

Shootouts are a crapshoot, not worried about coming up short in a couple in a row.

The Turris line is a treat to watch, especially when Karlsson is back there at the same time.

Yes, or EK. Anyone but Michalek. Do they actually practice deking/SO during practice? Lehner could use some reps here too. win-win

Nikushkin kneed Andy in the head...for the 2nd time in the game...and knocked him silly. I wonder how come nobody on the Sens bothered to have a stern chat with Nikushkin? That's our STAR GOALIE for F-sake!

This.

Michalek - Spezza - Ryan
Turris - Karlsson

is just plain sexy
