You can't advance in MLS with away goals like you can in UCL.

The tiebreaker is total aggregate, and if it's still tied it goes to 15/15/PK scenario.

Red Bulls looked like trash in the 2nd half, but that red card was atrocious.

The MLS has to be difficult in every way doesn't it? This is apparent in all facets of North American soccer too. I was watching a college soccer game out of boredom the other day and there were unlimited subs, a down counting clock that stops for injuries and goals, and OVERTIME?!? What is this madness? Just conform already.

Eh, normally I'd agree regarding MLS being extremely difficult, but this doesn't bother me too much.

In a relatively homogeneous league, it sort of makes more sense to have the advancement be on total aggregate rather than home/away splits, especially because the two games occur essentially in a week or so span and there's relatively no difference in H/A games (re: pitches, weather, climates, etc).

Plus, even in European competition, I don't think there's really any research or stats to support that away goals actually improve games or force teams to play more offensively. Aside from even a hand-full of teams or extreme cases of mid-week travel, most games still have a pretty even w/l/d record both home & away.

You and your stamp taxes, quartering and promotion/relegation!

It's a cultural thing. I tried to explain the European away goal rule in UEFA recently to a group of non-fans and they thought it was the most absurd thing they had ever head of.

Now, the big advantage to it is that it cuts down on matches decided by penalty kicks. But, I think I would just prefer best-of-3 game series in MLS.

Huge game for the Red Bulls on wednesday. I like our chances, but that was definitely a ****** way to finish the last game.

Will be there as usual and it's a great and affordable time.

This is brutal. Could they possibly choke this away after finishing at the top of the table? They should have played the game in Houston to the end.

The RB's have taken over as the biggest chokers in the metropolitan area. What a horrible finish.

Another shining example of a great season deemed to be a "failure" by most fans because of one bad game. RBNY are the true champions to me #problemswithplayoffs

Bah... Tough end to an excellent season. First trophy in the club's history.

Didn't feel like it was supposed to end last night. Houston played great defensively and that's their game. They'll probably make it to the final again.

They desperately needed Olave, still think that was an extremely harsh red.

No idea why Peguy didn't start either, or why his introduction took so long.

Espindola is such a wasteful player, it'd do the team tons of good if they could grab a better option upfront or a true CDM/distributor for next year.

They are serious chokers man...Wow I was so upset with this team, it is also why I am abandoning ship...First time ever with a sports team I root for and I will transition over to being a New York City FC fan once that team is inserted into the MLS.

Sorry guys, but its the truth.

They have to get fans from somewhere... but if its largely people who have bailed on another team, then they better do well or they'll be looking at 1k a game on average.

NYC is too large a city for a club to bear the name of the entire city and expect everyone to fall in love with the club. Not to mention that they don't even play in NYC. NYC is too diverse, too expansive, there was a time when the city had 4 baseball teams and it still didn't feel like it was enough. I don't see 8 million people rallying behind just the RBs or Cosmos even if they were all footy fans. Truly loyal and committed support is built on the community level. There is no "London FC" Each team in London represents a unique neighborhood and out of those locally based clubs notoriety, popularity and prestige were built. The MLS is trying to take the fast method in growing the sport and they're using the wrong model, you don't build the game from the top-down but rather from the bottom-up.

No one knows where City FC will even play, and you forgot the biggest problem...

Any EPL fan of a team that isn't Manchester City is going to be predisposed to root against what is essentially a "B" team of that big club. City fans will like it, and people who don't care about the EPL won't mind, but a lot of fans of Man United and other Manchester based clubs in NY, will choose RBNY or the Cosmos.

Cosmos should go up. DCU & Chivas should play a relegation playoff tie. In a perfect world of course.
