Not until next season, right?

Can you take a look at Wu-Tang Clan and tell me who you consider equal value?

"equal value" is a bit vague. What one considers equal, the other may not. Could mean fantasy points this season, or overall production, or could even include potential.

Be happy to look into a trade as well, but would need an idea of what you would like in return.

Yeah, that would be an offseason change. I'll probably remove the win bonus and increase the value of saves/goals against. If my thinking is right, that will mean their own performance becomes most important.

That's what working out a trade is all about haha. Nino is on the top line with Parise and Koivu, is putting up points and fantasy points at a solid clip, and is just hitting his stride. He's no star, but I expect him to be a solid, everyday fantasy player. That's how I value him.

Ok, so a young player, who plays on a top line..not huge numbers, but consistent with big upside. So, someone of the B Schenn caliber?

edit: ok "consistent" is not a term I would use for Schenn, but you get what I mean

Yeah, right now the way I see it is that goalies are actually marginalized, and having a goalie that plays for a good team is over emphasized.

The other day I had a goalie who stopped. 25/27 shots and lost the game in O/T. That's a pretty decent game, an he got like .2 fantasy points. Where as there are other games where a goalie is pretty marginal but his team wins and it's a decent fantasy points result.

The way it's set up right now is that a decent goalie on a mediocre team basically breaks even in fantasy points and a bad night can cost you a lot. Where as a skater in a similar situation will almost never cost you more than a couple tenths of a fantasy point, and even on the most average nights you can get a fantasy point or so out of them.

I really like Beef's idea. I would either penalize goalies less for goals against or give them a bit more credit for each saves, and lessen the reward for wins. That way you don't increase their average fantasy points, but you can take some of the wild game-to-game variance out of it.

We've worked pretty well together on trades in the past so I had a look to see if I have anything that looks like a match and my line up is already a bit LW heavy otherwise I'd have offered a deal.

I also wouldn't mind upping their point totals a bit, to reflect their importance in real hockey.

I just don't want the good goalies to pull down 12 points and the average goalies to bring in like 4 or something...that's too much disparity.

I think the recipe is to greatly diminish the value of the win stat. 5 points for a win? That's so much. If you you look at the average points per game total for the to goalies it's less than 5. The outcome of the games they're in is dominating their value, as opposed to their contribution to the outcome. As it stands, if a goalie stops 30 shots, let's in three goals, and loses the game, he nets zero fantasy points. That's zero fantasy points for a pretty solid statistical performance. An average game from a skater is worth about a point and a half.

I feel like a fantasy point off per goal against is too much. .3 or .4 off would be better imo. This way that same 30 save 3 gaa performance is worth either 2.1 or 1.8 fantasy points, respectively. Then if he happened to win the game, perhaps you could award another 1.75 points or 2 points. putting the possible value of that game from 3.55 to a max of 4.1 points. I feel like this weighting places more of the emphasis on the quality of the goaltender, as opposed to the team they're on being able to win games. Perhaps the actual values could be increases if you wanted to put more weight on the goalie position by increasing those values, but the proportion feels about right to me.

I think it would be really good if we could know what direction this is going next season by the trade deadline, since that is a point at which we need start forecasting player's values for the coming seasons. That's of course difficult to do with the value of the goalie's stats up in the air.

Additionally, I can haz approval on Ryan Miller trade?

Hey beef whenever you can get to it, can you approve the most recent trade I made.

Great job with the league, good to see a lot of people are still active.

Sorry I didn't see that sooner, people only conduct trades while I'm traveling apparently, haha.

You both apparently have illegal rosters to sort out.

Some problems with the Minor League section have been brought to my attention. I'm fixing them now.

THere was a <82 game qualifier for minor league players, but there was no maximum limit. This made the minor leagues a glorified bench extension, and at least one person has abused that. I'm establishing an upper limit of 200 games, that gives you around 2.5 years to "develop" a prospect and decide if you want to keep him or let him for to free agency.

I know that seems like a long time, but I want to avoid a hard 82 game limit. That will force owners to choose between keeping a guy producing at 1 point per game (but with lots of potential to be better later), or dropping him to get someone who is presently better.

If I find players in the minor leagues that shouldn't be there, I'm dropping them from your roster as a penalty for abusing the loophole; you guys know the rules, and although it's my fault for missing this loophole to begin with, you shouldn't go against the spirit of the rule.

Damn, I sound like Bettman dealing with NJ.

Edit: Dead Men Skating, your roster is illegal and isn't accruing points.

I'm not done with this Minor rule, by the way. Based on the original rule, I'm not sure this implementation works so I'm going to seek a way to better it. THere's a really good chance it'll change again; I wanted to do something immediately to address the problem, though.

Edit: Yes, I am aware of a loophole with THIS new system. If I see anyone exploit it I'll mail you a bag of poop, and probably drop players from your team.

Whose roster was illegal? Call them out and make them feel shame.

Just the Tip was storing Goligoski in the minors, and Last Place was using it as an extension of LTIR.

Shame, shame!

I didn't even realize who I was sending up and down because I'm used to it not letting you send down guys who played 82 games

Also I finally have a computer and am able to easily set my roster now.
