And hell, even with the condition I could see Snow giving up 7-9 and keeping 2015 just because of the chance for McDavid. For as much as I love Zads, the Sabres may end up getting a better player with the Isles 1st. A guy like Sam Bennett at #11 (#10) looks like a pick just as good if not better then Zadorov's. This all depends on how the Isles finish. I expect them to either be the 8th seed or out of the postseason and a Potential high pick. I don't think there is any doubt that the Isles 2014 1st we get is going to be before pick 16.
They are evaluating the player who they got with the pick and not the pick itself.

The feeling is 2013 draft was a generational draft (time will tell) so the feeling was getting a player at 15 in that year would be the equivalent of a pick at 7 or 8 in a normal year.

Its the NYI option. I am not suure how the Devils forfeit of pick plays into it being a top 10 pick--or is it top 11-- Devils forfeit--then it becomes a top 10.

I agree If they know they didnt keep Vanek (either trade him at deadline or see him walk) then they may just opt to not exercise that option because of McDavid in 2015 and the feeling this years draft isnt as good as 2013 or 2015.

this was similar to toronto and Kessel trade. They throught they were a Kessel player away from being a playoff team---so the offseason they traded for him, not expecting themselves to tank and thus give up 2 top 10 picks. they thought they would probably be giving up a late teens pick one year and a low 20s the year after.

It's simple, we already know what we got with the Minnesota pick, and it'd take a fair degree of luck to get a better prospect with the NYI pick. Does it matter if the Islanders pick is higher or not? No. I'd bet a whole lot on Sam Bennett not being available at #11.
