1.1% chance of making the playoffs.
http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/W.../Edmonton.html

if they play .500 hockey the rest of the way, they have a 67% chance of finishing 14th in the conference.

Huh?

Yeah, guess they don't think there's anyway they can get good vets through UFA or trades, so they're going to let "Phase 1" of the rebuild (Hall/Eberle/Schultz/RNH/Yakupov) play (and lose) until they're in their mid-twenties and considered decent vets, then by that time the youth group (Phase 2) of Ekblad, McDavid, 2016 Top 3 pick, 2017 Top 3 Pick should be a good enough combo with those "vets" to start winning.

Huh?

Yeah, this is what it feels management is doing. Wake me up in 5 years.
And we'll still win another Cup before the Nucks win one

This is just getting pathetic

Does everyone brag about it in the media? And bring up when it has no relevance in the topic? Your "hero" Kevin Lowe has little man syndrome, and is the biggest piece of junk that this franchise has ever employed.

Personally, I think the fan base could have drawn the line at refusing to build a new rink, but having a few empty seats is a start, I suppose.

you're out of province and you don't have to pay for the arena. my taxes will.
so unless you're sending a cheque, I don't see how you can shake your head.

either way, the fans and/or the taxpayers had no say as to a new arena being built.

anyway the oilers have let in 10 more goals than the next worst team in the league.
they're also tied for the league lead with a -23 goal differential.

29th in the league standings.

the long rebuild is a fail.

I have never seen such a negative poll on the Oilers official site.

How will the Oilers do on their four-game road trip?

Three or more:
13.17%
Two:
18.23%
One:
26.98%
None:
41.61%

They're as soft as it gets. You really cant blame them though due to the area, etc. Listen to 1260 in the morning. You'd never know this team was as bad as it is.

Hall is the spiritual leader of this team - a veritable Messier v2.0! Eberle, why he is going to be a consistent 35/35/70 player - you just wait! RNH sees the ice like Gretzky and his potential is off the charts! And Yakupov may end up being the best of them all!1eleven! Each and every one of them is utterly irreplaceable for their own unique reasons, and there is absolutely no chance that trading one or even (gasp!) two of them could possibly bring back a return far larger than the sum of its parts.

And in any event, what is MOST important when even thinking about trading these gods-in-waiting is whether or not we "win" the trade. This team and fanbase is utterly terrified to "lose" a trade when it comes to these guys. Does it make the Oilers better now? Does it make the Oilers a more complete and balanced team? Does it set them up for success in the near and medium term? Why, as if any of those things matter - the real metric is whether or not we gave up the best player in the deal! Well, "best" only if you consider all that amazing potential, but that's the only lens we have...

Take a look at the trade thread and it's crystal clear that people are not looking at the '14 #1 as a valuable trading chip but as a means to acquire more potential. Some are even penciling Ekblad into the 1st D pairing. If we still have that ****ing pick in our possession at the end of the season - hell, if we still have it a month from now, assuming we still suck - then it's over for this franchise. The "rebuild" will have all been for naught and we will have gone from competitive NHL team to collector and admirer of shiny things.
Awesome post ...nailed it
