Atta boy, Stormy! AHL contract, should be fun to watch him a little closer.

The fact that they were willing to take a chance on Walker makes me admire the Capitals. It would be awesome for him if he was drafted next year, but a shame for the Caps if they missed out on him after they were the only team willing to give him a shot.

Just curious but if this kid ends up with half decent numbers in the AHL as a 19 year old, you would have to assume he'll get drafted quite high, no?

any reason he's barely played in the AHL, has he been hurt?

This may sound ridiculous but it could possibly be the Caps trying to hide him so they can take him themselves.

I'd say it's because he's not at all ready for AHL hockey

You're right... That does sound ridiculous

He sure looked ready in the preseason (I know it's only preseason, but still)

First AHL goal, with a scrap as well.

Nice shot, and nice work to take advantage of the defense distracted by a possible fight.

Hershey is crowded. Even guys with considerable NHL experience like Stoa and Segal aren't holding a regular spot in the line-up, and Stanislav Galiev is once again in the ECHL.

Walker has played 5 games now with Hershey, has a goal and 2 assists and from the few reports I've read has looked pretty good.

To put this in perspective Girgensons played last year with Rochester and had 6 goals & 11 assists for 17 points in 61 games as an 18 year old.

Given that Girgensons was a 1st round pick, if Walker can put up 20-30 points with Hershey where does this put him for the upcoming draft?

I'm thinking late 1st or mid 2nd.

What's he billed as? If he's an alleged two-way guy like Girgensons supposedly is, then late 1st sounds about right. If he ends up 0.5 pts/game or better in the AHL as a 19 year old, he'll fit the bill of "safe pick" pretty well.

He's been passed over twice in the draft, he'd have to be a god in the AHL to get drafted in the first two rounds.

Plus he's slightly undersized and not from a traditional hockey country, unless he tears it up he wont get drafted and will have to make his way up from the AHL.

Tanner Pearson was drafted 30th overall in 2012 as a twenty year old after putting up 90 points with Barrie.

With that being said, I think it depends on the draft class and his production. But if he lights it up I don't see any reason why a team wouldn't reach for him in the 2nd round.

Tanner Pearson is also Canadian and played for the World Junior team, and in what is probably the most scouted league in the world.

Walker will be a late-round pick, if he is even drafted at all.

The AHL is scouted just as much as the CHL if not more so.

I don't know if it's happened int he last 10 years, but if it has it would be a rare occurrence. Most guys who make it to the AHL at draft age have been drafted already. If an undrafted player is picked up from the AHL by an NHL team, they tend to be past their draft eligible age, and are simply signed to a contract.

The draft window is very short in overall terms, and CHLers can't join the AHL until their 20s (so there would be, at max, a year of overlap between draft eligibility and AHL play). NCAA players generally play out 3+ seasons in college, and risk losing a scholarship for nothing if they jump to a lower league like the AHL without having an NHL contract in place. Then you've got Euro league players who, unless they're NHL property, are unlikely to want to travel to the other side of the world to join the AHL.

Has he been included in any draft previews for 2014? If not, he should be.

Nathan Walker - Undrafted

Does someone know who is this guy? How does he got an AHL contract with the Hershey Bears at only 19 years old? He is doing pretty well with 13-4-4-8.

He was born in GBR, but he is Austrlian trained player. Yes, sounds odd, but he played in Aus till age of 13, then he moved to Vitkovice program in Czech Republic. I remember two years ago at Spengler Cup TSN made short interview with him .

He's a guy whos been invited to 2 Capitals development camps and the Capitals would of chose to sign him to a 2 way contract if they could of, but ended up just getting him in Hershey.
