That doesn't even sound right.

And all those bashing Vandy are hilarious, when we don't even know he had the surgery at Vandy.

And Vandy isn't just a university hospital, it's one the top.

Does this mean 6-8 weeks from now? Or is it a total from when he first got diagnosed?

Probably won't be back until early January. That is if nothing else goes wrong.

If people have trouble raking College Football teams who compete against each other every week, how the heck do you go about ranking hospitals?

Regardless, Vanderbilt doctors can royally screw up just like any doctor. I know dead people who can attest to it.

That being said, I'm not saying the Rinne infection is their fault. Someone who knows will have to chime in. And if it's a grey area or possible their fault, it's unlikely we'll hear about it, certainly not from Vandy.

The surgery was several months ago. The common mode of transmission is someone not washing their hands after using the bathroom. So, he might have gotten it during post op wound care. However, I am not an infectious disease practitioner, just an internal medicine NP.

The sad part is that several EC teams are in worse shape than we are right now. I can see Philly righting their ship.
We will be lucky to pick top 10.

I'm the last one on these boards to be critical of Poile. But I think Poile screwed the pooch by going with an unproven back up instead of signing a seasoned netminder to a one year contract. With a potentially risky off season surgery, hindsight suggests he should have been cautious and went the more expensive route.

If the Preds fall apart over the next 6-8 weeks, this may be the end of the Poile era.

I'm one of the 1st ones to be critical of Poile, but Hutton at this point is 3-1-1.

It's not like there were great cheap proven NHL backups available. Jason Labarbera? We'd hardly be better off...

He is 3-1-1, but some of the goals he's given up were awful. I hope you're right on this one.

In some Scandinavian countries it is still somewhat common to pack a wound or surgical opening with raw ground beef (or, less common, ground horse meat) as there is some evidence- mostly anecdotal- that the process speeds healing and lessens scar tissue. I STRONGLY suspect this process was used in this case given E. coli is a known risk factor in OWRMP (open wound raw meat packing) protocols.

Not saying he's the answer, but saying there weren't good backups available who could come in an "save us". But also noting he's 3-1-1 so far....

I can only imagine the cases of e coli in the wound like this appearing months after the surgery are extremely rare. I hope that he recovers fully, he's a nice guy.

Frankly it makes me never want to go into a hospital or have any health care professional touch me. If you've ever been in a hospital or visited someone and ever asked someone to wash their hands......well, to say it's not well received is putting it mildly. It affects the patient care because the medical staff is so offended.

I don't blame Poile not signing some other goalie (and I don't remember the choices. It's such an extremely weird thing.

Mr. Adz was a microbiologist in an earlier incarnation and worked in retrieval of organs for transplant in another one, so medical issues such as these capture his attention. He said that it is also possible that during the previous surgery Pekka's intestines were nicked. He was glad it wasn't staph.

Is it possible with the range of motion in the hip that a bone spur or a spot where a pin was placed nicked the intestine? That was my first thought when I heard...

I hope this wasn't the case. Sounds like something out of the middle ages.
