Deboer can't turn **** into gold.

Name a better option out there, there are none. Lou hasn't pulled the trigger yet because he knows the crap that's on the ice, just like he handcuffed Maclean early in the 2011 season.

Deboer needs to fix his personnel choices, but coaching is not the main issue here.

I'm still not sure who can pull it together, but I'm also not an advocate of making a coaching change just to make a coaching change either.

If Stevens is the replacement then just keep Deboer. If we bring in another bum, just keep Deboer instead.

Weren't you calling for Deboer to be fired not too long ago? It's nothing new for me. I doubted him after last season.

I was, but I've since changed my mind. This team is just not good enough. I don't like Deboer's decisions, but firing him when there are absolutely no other options out there is ridiculous. And again, the team just isn't good enough. How can he make Zajac start scoring suddenly? or Henrique?
This team is bad from top to bottom...it needs a full cleansing.

I think another coach (Not sure who) can get this team performing a little better. Not necessarily a playoff team, but something that's closer to a bottom 10 team than bottom 5. The system isn't good for the team defensively I don't believe, and I'm not sure it's working offensively either. We need to find another means to score goals.

Pete could very well coach somewhere else in the NHL and have success, but I think it's done in Jersey.

Why would Lou fire Julien in 2007, first in the conference/division whatever it was?

and not Maclean early in 2011 and now Deboer? Because he knows the team has little potential. He doesn't think a coaching change is going to do anything.

2007 he felt the team had more potential and wasn't performing due to coaching vs.

a team that he sees has little going for it. I question Lou, but I definitely see his thinking here.

Edit. I'm not 100% satisfied with Deboer, however, this would be another patchwork/bandaid move. Let's not face the real issues with the team.

It's early still. I would be very surprised if he lasts for the remainder of the season though. I would be completely shocked if he is coaching with the Devils beyond this year. I think his system just isn't working for the personnel we have now. That's not his fault, I don't blame him for that. I do think it will require a coaching change though.

I could be very wrong and you could be very right. A coaching change might not make a difference whatsoever, but I believe the right coach could get this team playing at a 500 clip.

DeBoer can't coach young players and keeps playing the 4th line like they're All-Stars. He kept playing Volch and Harrold and scratching Larsson until injuries forced him to play Larsson and call up Gelinas. Amazingly, the defense looks better. Still not great, but better.

If Lou can find a coach that can handle young players better, I think this team could turn it around. If not, they're doomed to the cellar with no 1st round pick to look forward to.

or the young players are just not very good.

I defended Josefson plenty over Gionta, but I can even admit he looks average with more responsibility due to injuries.
Tedenby- weak, gets smacked off the puck all the time. He also never shoots.

this is what i see every time the 4th line is out on the ice. they might have speed, but speed doesn't help when you're half the size of most of the other teams' D.

i saw it consistently with the Bruins, Lightning and Wild D, and PDB kept playing the 4th line against the Wild a lot, and it was just bad.

The longer DeBoer keeps coaching the team to a .200 winning percentage with job security, the more you look right about this.

I do think the fact that so many players have been struggling below their career norms and development of the young players has been hindered suggests we need to make a change just to get things started turning in the right direction for next year as much as anything.

Lou has been talking this team up since he built it. I don't think he thinks it's mediocre.

Lou put together the best he could under the circumstances, and an underwhelming FA class. contracts aside, this roster should be doing alot better. its not devoid of skill, its devoid of production

You'd never get to Lou.

Pauly Walnuts would get you first.

Why is this guy still a NHL coach? He made the playoffs once in 5 seasons of coaching and it's already looking bad so far in his sixth season.

He's a good coach as long as the team has the players to fit his system and no youngsters.

2 wins out of the playoffs with a game in hand on everyone ahead of us. Man there's a lot of bad hockey being played right now all over the league.
