We just picked some bad years to tank. I'm sure Yak will come around and become a decent player in time, but neither Yakupov or Hall can carry a franchise IMO (I hope I'm wrong).

It's too bad we didn't land Tavares + Stamkos or something.

yeah, we weren't terrible at the right time.

Although I somewhat agree, those franchises are still not really winning ones.

Tavares + Stamkos would be far superior to any 2 of our no.1s combined.

We have no luck at all. Waste years chasing after Heatley/Nylander etc. then realize we need to rebuild, follow the Penguins model only to find there's no Crosby/Malkins etc. to be had.

Essentially Yak vs Brayden Schenn. I take Yak a 100 times out of 100.
Agree. Although I like Brayden, yak has star upside you don't teach. Other Schenn is horrible. Oilers should not want anything to do with him.

Meh.

Nuge is legitimate, Yakupov compares to Stamkos well still. Hall i'm not a fan of.

Funny considering Hall is the only one who has proven anything at this point.

That's what I was thinking reading this page. Wish we had Tavares...yet Hall put up more points last year despite being the younger one. One of those grass is greener on the other side things I guess.

What was wrong with the Hall from last season? He hasn't looked the best this season but only played 9 games (almost PPG).

The only reason I think EDM was unfortunate with their 1st overall picks is injury struggles and a bit of skill/player type repetition. In isolation, I think each 1st overall (Hall, RNH, Yakupov) are or will be worthy of their selection.

Hall with back to back mem cup MVP should have been a steal. Such a rare prospect.
Nuge pick didnt seem anything special at the time.. was considered a weak draft.. but sure looks fine.

Once Yak figures things out he should be a good pick as well...

We have the pieces... just need to make em work.

The players themselves are fine..
this mix is not

we need some bite

All of those players would look a hell of a lot better on say.. the Sharks.

Yes it would be sick to have Stamkos + Tavares but we don't. We still have 3 number 1 picks. They will be very good players. Maybe a level below, but great players on their own. We need to now add in the right mix of supporting players. That might mean trading a 1st overall, or it may not.

Hall is a hell of a player. He W\would easily be the top player on most teams in this league.

Stamkos had scored 23g, 23a with a -13 in his first 79 games (0.58 ppg). He did not have a spectacular season in his first season despite having such stars as St. Louis, lecavalier and Richards to shelter him.

Tavares had scored 24g, 30 a with a -14 in his first season (82 games).

Nail Yakupov by comparison has scored 18g, 16a with a -17 in his first 62 games (0.55 ppg).

He is nearly EXACTLY on the same development path as Stamkos.

I fail to see how people can determine that Yakupov is not going to be an impact player so early in his career. Every junior player entering the NHL goes through growing pains. I have not seen anything that has changed my mind regarding Yakupov's development nor future impact.

disagree

waaaay to early to tell on any of any of our #1 players if they can or cannot carry a franchise (I like Hall's chances though)

and where has Stamkos and Tavares lead their respective teams exactly?
