Nuge is legitimate, Yakupov compares to Stamkos well still. Hall i'm not a fan of.
What was wrong with the Hall from last season? He hasn't looked the best this season but only played 9 games (almost PPG).
The only reason I think EDM was unfortunate with their 1st overall picks is injury struggles and a bit of skill/player type repetition. In isolation, I think each 1st overall (Hall, RNH, Yakupov) are or will be worthy of their selection.
Yes it would be sick to have Stamkos + Tavares but we don't. We still have 3 number 1 picks. They will be very good players. Maybe a level below, but great players on their own. We need to now add in the right mix of supporting players. That might mean trading a 1st overall, or it may not.
We just picked some bad years to tank. I'm sure Yak will come around and become a decent player in time, but neither Yakupov or Hall can carry a franchise IMO (I hope I'm wrong).
It's too bad we didn't land Tavares + Stamkos or something.
Stamkos had scored 23g, 23a with a -13 in his first 79 games (0.58 ppg). He did not have a spectacular season in his first season despite having such stars as St. Louis, lecavalier and Richards to shelter him.
Tavares had scored 24g, 30 a with a -14 in his first season (82 games).
Nail Yakupov by comparison has scored 18g, 16a with a -17 in his first 62 games (0.55 ppg).
He is nearly EXACTLY on the same development path as Stamkos.
I fail to see how people can determine that Yakupov is not going to be an impact player so early in his career. Every junior player entering the NHL goes through growing pains. I have not seen anything that has changed my mind regarding Yakupov's development nor future impact.
